I am not the average student.. hopefully, I get a mentor with a little character and we can make the best of this.. Some people seem scared at this stage.. maybe they confuse it with excitement.. great learning opportunity here.. not many of these chances in life, imo..

Thank you. Is it okay to be scared a little? I excited and blessed to have this opportunity, but I'm a little freaked out.. Hopefully, it goes away and I can enjoy the experience..

It's ok that you are concerned...a whole new lifestyle awaits you with lots of unknowns, don't sweat it too much.

I am curious as to why you think you are not an average student.

Laredo is a good chill terminal, taco trucks on the street in front of terminal, pilot truck stop within walking distance out the truck gate.

Inkeper. I guess I made a vague description of myself..
What I mean by it is, one or two people I talk to think it's interesting when I tell them I might drive trucks for a living.. Most people want me to teach or stick to the design world.. So, I might have formed an opinion of myself of not fitting the stigma of a trucker..

Don't worry about what anybody else thinks. When I went through driving school in late 99 early 2000, certain people told me I didn't fit the profile of a trucker. After all this time I'm still a truck driver. Don't sweat the small things other people are pointing out.

Just bear in mind that there is no longer an average truck driver. Many of the newer guys are smarter, better read, and have lots of schooling. There are a few lawyers, teachers, air traffic controllers, authors, and retired military officers, both non comm and commissioned.

All of that said, it doesn't make them any better than the guys that have driven for years. The older truckers have fascinating stories and are full of knowledge of many things non trucking. It just happens that driving a truck is all they really ever wanted to do. And for the most part, most of them are very good at it.

You will run into some guys that are, well let's just say they are not the most polite or civilized folks. But they are not the norm. You will know right away when you run into one of them.

This is definitely a lifestyle unlike any that you may have encountered. But you are no better or worse than anyone else. Our jobs are all the same, get the freight, move the freight, deliver the freight. Do it all on time and most important do it safely and legally and you won't have a problem.

    Good luck to you.

EDIT....Just so you know, there is much more to driving a truck than just steering it down the road.
