Rick, I hope you don't mind that im using you, and that load of pipe, as an example of how badly these pay per mile and l/p plans screw you. After the fsc, you are getting what? 1.35/mile plus or minus a couple cents? Is that number accurate? Now I don't know the area you loaded out of or into but I'll use a load I pull when I can't get anything better out of Florida. It's one of the cheapest loads I pull, due to Florida rates being so bad, goes to Tennessee where rates are much better. Plastic pipe just like you have in that picture, and pays to the truck after my carriers cut just over 1.90 a mile. That's a difference of over 50 cpm. If you are losing that much on the cheap loads, how much are you kidding on the good loads? This is the point guys like me are trying to get across to guys in, or considering, a l/p plan at a mega paying xyz/mile contracts

Yes I fully understand what i'm losing out on. But i'm not running my own authority so i'm fine with it. Here are the reasons why I did what I did
    1. I don't have to worry about... half of the costs of running my own authority.
    2. I'm sort of inexperienced at this i'll admit but i'm using this as a learning opportunity without investing TOO much into it.
    3. Consistent freight, and I don't have to really look for it.
    4. The pay is also consistent which doesn't bother me.
    5. I didn't get into leasing to make more money than I did as a company driver. Anything extra I put away into a savings account.
    6. Maybe I'm just weird but I like doing busy work, keeps the mind working. Also why i'm doing flatbed work
    7. Just a little extra freedom.

You make a good point, but later on I may go and stray off and do whatever. But for now i'm content.

okay I know I'm getting old, but don't see a lift axle, and there is no way plastic pipe is grossing 105K.

I'm not talking about your own authority. In fact I'd advise against that to 99 percent of those contemplating it. I'm talking about being leased to a carrier paying percentage. For example, I'm leased to Mercer. The numbers I used above were to the truck after Mercer takes their percentage.

Oh good thought I need to get new glasses again. But I will chime in here, you do know you are getting ripped off by them, you are making their truck payment for them, paying for the maintenance costs for them, on a truck that you probably will never own, which they will lease out to someone after you, and do it all over again. They don't have to provide you with any benefits. So at the end of the year you will make less than a company driver.
I am an O/O leased to a company doing heavy Haul, and for what they are paying you I would not walk out the door to start my truck, much less pick up the load. My advice to you is this, if you like flatbeding do what your doing till you learn the ropes, then go BUY your own truck lease it to a good company and get Grey hair with the rest of us. LOL.

All these guys talk big crapola... None of them are willing to post a settlement sheet or a load confirmation sheet.... They work for a percentage but never see the invoice/rate sheet so what are they truly working for???? Post it or stop feeding us your L/P BS....
