I am one week away from departing to the academy training at Fontana,ca. With central refrigerated/swift. But here's my case,, I am 22 years old with two driving accidents and a criminal record(As a Minor-Juvenile). One accident on 07/15/2011 & the second on 06/22/2012. I spoke to the recruiter and filled up the application. And faxed my h6 last week, she told me that my driving record is acceptable. Since one accident is over 3years and the other 2 years. Okay I was really glad to hear that from her, but as I read threads from other people here saying that they went to orientation and were told by the recruiter everything was "Good", until the day of the orientation when they got sent home by the actual person that checks all of that good stuff on your record and all. I'm afraid of leaving my job and mom behind for something that is going to be a dead end for me. For what I've searched on the internet, two accidents(1 over 3 years old and the other 2 years) is acceptable not only with swift but Stevens and more companies. But I don't want to travel out of state for my training, not if I'm not sure that I will not be given "the boot" on my behind and get sent home. As in for my felony, I was charged as a minor and convicted as a minor at the age of 15 years old(7 years ago) for assault with a deadly weapon.I completed my sentence in a juvenile camp and probation after for 1 year. I have not got in trouble ever again. I told my recruiter about it and she said that juvenile record does not matter to them, but in the application it said "have you ever been convicted of a felony?" . I insisted whether or not to post my felony, and she kept saying "no,it's okay". But I've read stuff in here that say people get sent home for not being honest. So I took a day off from work, went to court and filled out an application to seal my record which can take up to six months to process. And drove all the way to Fontana that same day from compton just to ask a recruiter in person about it. He also told me that swift does not look into your record as a minor. But at court I was told that my record is viewable to everyone, since it did not seal at age of 18 due to the seriousness of the case. So basically my felony will show on my adult record but I'm guessing that it'll show that I was convicted and charged as a minor. And it's already 7 years old, which I hope they really don't worry about it and don't disqualify me. As in for the "lying" on my app, I told my recruiter I wanted to reported either way because I don't wanna be sent home for lying ever though two recruiters told me to not mention it. But they get paid for making people show up at orientation not for having them accepted. That's my concern, I don't wanna be disqualified because I didn't mention that felony because my recruiter told me not to. Honesty is a big thing in trucking I believe , that's why I rather take my chances and be honest. I mean if it doesn't really matter to them like my recruiter told me, why would it hurt to mention it??? Has anyone went through the same thing ? Or knows someone that went through this? I really want to be sure before I leave my job behind and my mother, and four dogs I have for something that I'm not going to get nothing out of. I have enough money saved for next months rent , & food for my mother and dogs. But if I get sent home I won't be able to return to my job ,so I'll have to look for a new one and the rent does not wait neither does hunger. What will your advice be? If you're a driver for swift please help.

I understand your concern. Here is what I would do is call the safety dept at swift.Tell them exactly what you told the forum and also mention to them your recruiter said everything was ok and accepted. Also tell safety you don't wanna get to orientation then get sent home is my driving accidents and criminal record going to be an issue.

Thank you for the advice, I just didn't know who to contact regarding that. I seen plenty of phone numbers on their website for dispatchers, safety, recruiters and more but I thought that only the recruiters were the ones to help me out with my questions. I'll call on Monday after I get out of work.

Do you know why those people got disqualified? Any ideas?
I know a lot of people get sent home because of the drug test but that's not my concern. I just want to know what other reason people get sent home.

Recruiters will say anything to get you to orientation. That is how they get paid. You show up they get paid. They have no ties to you after that. If your not accepted they still get their money. I would do as the others said and call directly.

I don't know why companies let their recruiters get away with prehiring ppl then some of those folks get sent packen once they get to orientation,Who pays for the transportation back home?

If by chance you don't get ahold of safety I would not go to orientation till you're positive you get accepted.Recruiters are there only to recruit and receive a commission for every one they get hired. Then all the other work is in the companies hands.I've seen ppl get sent home too from other companies.

Swift has a Safety department, and the receptionist will know their extension. For sure that's good advice. Call Swift, ask for Safety. You'll be glad you did.

Your juvenile record should be sealed, I got in some trouble as a kid and never mention it on any applications.
It's never been an issue for me up to and including getting a concealed handgun carry permit.
I would not put that in yours as long as you have no criminal record as an adult.
The accidents and any moving violations will be the problem so focus on that.
