Swift Average Miles Per Week

Never driven for Swift,but here's my advice. Don't ##### and moan about loads to your dispatchers .Keep your left door closed.Deliver on time.Be couteeous to customers.Do this,and with Swifts freight base,my guess is you'll get all the miles you can legally handle. That's a fairly broad question as there are several factors that come into play determining your mileage.

Things like what division you run, the weather, experience level, freight volumes in a given area, your service record, reliability of your truck, time management, good trip planning and on and on....

I've been with Swift going on 4 years now and fairly consistently average 3000 a week but it took time and a lot of learning to reach and maintain this. It's not easy and takes a lot of effort and planning. I'm a Company driver and run OTR out of Houston. I stay out 5 weeks at a time (by choice), after the first week I run on recap hours and don't do 34-hr resets on the road. I'm out here to work, not sit, and my truck runs 7 days a week when I'm out. I've been a Platinum level driver most of my time with Swift which gives me access also to in-house load selections when they're available. I have a 100% on time service record with zero accidents. I also carry hazmat/tanker/double-triple endorsements on my CDL to have more load opportunity.

When I first started I knew the basics and had a very good mentor but the REAL learning came after going solo and my miles weren't too good. It takes a little time to learn Swifts culture, how to get things done and be efficient. I'm making good money weekly and get a good bonus quarterly and am content for now. However I am seriously considering pulling regional chemical tankers out of Houston and go home weekly.

Working for any trucking company is no day at the beach for sure and takes serious effort and commitment. I'm no Swift cheerleader by any stretch but they do provide the "tools" to get the job done but it's up to YOU to learn how to use them to maximize your earnings.

Peewee, HousTank just posted the best comment, factual and practical, that you're going to get. Read it a few times. I drove for Swift: for some reason (I might have started with them during a peak freight season) I was around 2,800 - 3,000/week annual average right away. Like HousTank, on time, no SF's, good fuel numbers, low idling numbers, no collisions, no customer complaints, and no driver-caused equipment issues. Like he says, it's mostly up to you. If you turn out to be a good driver, any trucking company will be good to you. Swift has a good program for new drivers, opportunity based. If you want more money with them, they'll pay you, but you have to show them first by putting up good statistics. Work hard, Peewee, the industry needs good drivers. We have plenty of marginal drivers already, but there's a lot of work and a good living if you succeed. My $.02.

Jeez, I am a L/O and only average about 2100 miles per week, but oops, forgot, about an additional 15-18 stops per week.

 

Work smart as well...pay attention to what happens and why...and don't let the negative drivers get to you...then your performance will be affected. Best of luck.
