So did anyone watch the video on the Qualcomm yet? He said there's more technology coming to the trucks. Does that mean cameras? Not to spread rumors. But has anyone found out how the pilot program was going for dash/driver cams? Also just in case anyone didn't know. They are doing a pilot program for mobile trip scanning on your cell. A buddy of mine just got selected to be a tester. Lucky him.

Also in the video I thought it was interesting how he says there will be LOTS of training on these new technologies coming to swift. What is it with swift and constantly having new training. Or classes. Or videos to watch. To always make drivers come to a terminal. I feel like every other week it's soemthing different. Maybe they'll train us on the "new technology" over the Qualcomm or swiftdrivers.com.

Yeah, saw the video myself today. Thank you for being vague on all this "new technology" coming to the trucks, and being thoroughly trained on it before installing, or at least while being installed.

Hey...negative 28 RA points, completely unmolested CSA score, 3 years (in two months) and near 300k miles driven accident free and never a scratch on their equipment? I'm thinking resume!

    I'm curious as well.
I'm also wondering what kind of 'training' would be required for camera's.
Perhaps it is the object avoidance system some of the trucks have? The crappy thing that will hit full brakes if someone cuts you off?

Technology is good, to a certain point. After that, it just introduces new problems.

He also spoke about reducing distractions while driving.
Well, electronics that take over my truck while I'm driving would be a HUGE distraction.
So would a camera focused on me at all times.
Those would not just be momentary distractions, like changing a channel on the radio or lighting my pipe. They would be constant and persistent distractions that would reduce my overall effective safety.

I like it at Swift, but if certain things are forced on me I'll be finding work elsewhere.
I'm sure many others at Swift would feel the same way.

So, what? Do they let all the long term drivers that have decided to stay with Swift, leave?
I only have 4 years in so far, but I still consider myself a long term driver with Swift. I'm not planning on leaving without a better reason than a few cents per mile more.

Swift NEEDS the long term and SAFE drivers!
So I'm really not going to worry about it, until it bites me.

I just got a 2015 Cascadia that has the Onguard accident avoidance system. I've only had it about a week so far so maybe I'm passing judgement too soon. I don't know. My opinion on it is still mixed. One of the interesting things is the small readout on the dash that shows the distance to the vehicle ahead of you and that vehicles speed. The truly most annoying feature is the beeping when you get too close to that vehicle, but it only beeps if that vehicle is going slower than you. What that means is that if some four wheeler cuts you off but is going faster than you, the system won't do anything. And it won't do anything but beep if your foot is on the throttle, but take your foot off and the engine brake will hit hard. Also, if you follow too close for too long without attempting to correct it, the Qualcomm will beep with a violation warning that it recorded a CER for following to close.

I don't want to say that I've been an unsafe driver, nobody wants to admit that, but I have seen that there is room for improvement and some change can be a good thing. Even if you don't have one of these systems on your truck yet, take stock of your driving habits and see if there isn't any room for improvement.

    Be safe everyone.

Does this happen only if you have the jake brake engaged, or does it engage the jake brake for you? If it engages the jake brake for you, then that IMHO is an accident waiting to happen.

Not really sure if it does it without the brake turned on, but I can tell you if you step on the throttle again it will cancel the action so you can kind of control it to a point. Of course the key is to try to avoid those scenarios and you learn to drive with the system.

The thing I probably hate the most is when driving with the cruise on and you approach a slower vehicle, you will start to gradually slow down to a matching speed. Then you have to speed up again to pass the slowpoke after everyone else has already gone around.

2015 Volvo for me, and I hate the pos. But I digress. I also hate the onguard pos that came with it. I am with you man it takes some getting used to. Though I have not had the qualcomm beep on it just the dashboard but thanks for the warning. I do a pretty fair amount of city driving and mornings.....well that effing beeping is annoying and through no fault of me. I know I can control the space around me but d.a.m.m.i.t. just s.t.f.u. and let me do it. Ok rant over sorry.

I certainly DON"T want a scanner in my truck. It's just another thing that takes up valuable space.
It's not that difficult to stop at a Love's or J or Pilot to scan paperwork once or twice a week.

Not to mention, I would hate to see the quality of scanners they might put in the trucks, considering the quality of scanners in terminals.
