Trust me, it'll get better than that. My current '15 KW T680 is now starting to average above 8 mpg (although some of that improvement might be due to warmer temperatures).

Whats pathetic is my half-shell 2015 Volvo now with almost 20k gets 6.7 mpg. It actually started out better but as miles went up mileage went down. It's Swift buying the fuel but considering my OTR truck I had, a 2014 Prostar got 7.3 mpg I conclude that my impression of Volvo will remain the same. They suck. They must start laughing whenever Swift calls to buy more(chumps). Kind of like the kiosk dealers. It does need to go in the shop at some point for some things but I've been putting it off.

The Freightliner dealer says itvwas probably a stuck temp gauge or a faulty temp sensor. No codes came up for overheating, but when on to say the shifting problems was a bad hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and that can cause overheating if the clutch slips. The clutch cylinder is only in play when depressing the cluth for shifting or stopping. Once clutch is left out, it no longer serves a purpose as the pressure plate holds clutch tight between flywheel and pressure plate. And if the clurch was slipping rpms would go.up and speed go.down. this was not the case. I say clutch or pressure plate or both are bad, and the only way a clutch cylinder could do.this is if it would not release, but then it would slip, and it don't. True the heat gage and sensor may be bad, but evidently they are not going to change them as they did not pull any error codes, and figureit is "cheaper"to pay for a tow than replace a gauge and sending unit for about $100.00 love companies that step over dollars to pick up.a dime. Hi driver manager seemed to doubt the truck overheated. I told the son, you got a cell phone with camera use it.

Hopefully that temp sensor fixes it. I have my doubts that the gauge went bad...they usually dont. The explanation you got for possible overheating doesn't make sense to me. A motor with a slipping clutch is losing the connection with the load, creating less heat in the process. The clutch would surely overheat if it slipped, but in no way affect actual coolant & motor temps to rise.

I agree. The reason they gave him is a load of bull hockey. He spent another night in Fancey Gap, Va, and they pulled his tractor to.a Freightliner.Dealer. He accompanied the wrecker.as a passenger. Swift had another Truck pick him up and drop him at the Freightliner dealer in Charlotte, NC. Where there was a truck of Swifts setting that was just finished getting repaired. He loads his stuff up in the truck and heads off to pickup.a new load. He did not get 5 miles from dealer and all the dash warning lights came on, and before he even got to.side of road the thing.died on him. It refused to.start. Roadside service came shook there head, called for a wrecker, which broke down enroute, and wrecker from another company came for it. Carried it back to.the FREIGHTLINER Dealership it just left 5 miles earlier. It will be tomorrow sometime till they.get to.look,at it. He called DM and thd DM flipped out. Not at my son, but the condition of the trucks as he has had nothing but tore up.trucks lately that are not properly repaired. On top of that Swift told the son to make sure trailer had the king pin lock on it. Well that load has already been picked up.and his lock would have.had to be busted off, so he is out a king pin lock. He asked if he can go.and pick up the other truck, now that its fixed, and was told its already gone, along with.all the binders, straps, tarps and chains he had. This truck they last gabe him that lasted 5 miles had.most stuff missing from it, and no tarps, and no keys to lock.storage boxes. Thing is the 2012 models are.getting replaced, so Swift.is spending as little.money.on them as possible. I told him to.go back to.Reefers or.dryvan
At least he hac a 2014 tractor that was.dependable.

They should have a master key for the lock. When my hubby's was towed, the tow truck did not want the key and he got a call from the shop the next day because they were having difficulty with it and would have to cut it off if they didnt hear back from him. By the tine he returned the call, they managed to get the master key to work.

Well my son finally got back on the road this afternoon. The truck he started out on the run with is still.setting, and waiting for authorization for repairs. It needs clutch slave cylinder and a clutch. The truck that died on him within 5 miles of the Freightliner.repair shop had regen problems and some other things, and thats what he is using now. Hwaded for his load, and shpuld be able to make two loads today, The DM told him they are working on a new truck for him, as he is to.run Indiana, Michigan, Texas triangle. Swift has done what they could, and in no way has screwed with him. He is a happy camper now that he is back on the road, instead of setting in a motel for days.
