I'd be moving from the town in a heartbeat myself and getting an address somewhere else. I don't blame the dog for getting out that's what animals do. It's just unfortunate some do gooder seen it and reported it. Sounds like a good pet. I know different towns have the no viscous breeds ordinance but I don't agree with them as I've lived next to 2 Pit Bulls that were friendly to people and didn't have an issue.

I'd usually rather deal with neighbors pets than their kids or them for the most part. If I catch them (neighbors/kids) loose and into something they shouldn't be (my property) can I put them down? I know we'd be a better society for it. I'd be looking out for the safety of the people so it's justified. Many times they're repeat offenders too. When are towns going to get those ordinances? They're long overdue. An ordinance where people are booted out of town or euthanized after a screwup or two sounds logical based on the guidelines of the viscous breed ordinance. Come on Salinas KS put that on the agenda at the next council meeting.

I have to support the city on this one.
Pit Bulls are way too unpredictable, that is why many places have banned them.

And to allow the dog to get out of the yard and wander free on the streets is irresponsible, especially in a city with that kind of ban.
It could be any one of us that have children playing outside, only to be attacked by a stray Pit Bull that the owner wasn't responsible enough for to keep it contained.
    It's happened many times.
One wrong move that the dog sees as threatening and it will attack. Sometimes, it seems, just because they feel like it.

I was working security at an apartment complex in San Jose, CA.
We had a guard dog, a Shepard.
As we were walking the complex one afternoon after school let out, an incident occurred.
A 10 year old boy was walking by. He had an empty plastic milk container, and he happened to raise it over his head as he walked by.
The dog attacked him without warning.
Luckily I had him on a short leash and the only damage was a few threads on the boys jacket.
That was the last time the dog was used, and was put down shortly after.
And this is a dog that had NEVER done that sort of thing before. Reverand played with my own kids often, and I never expected it from him.

"At the end of the day this is a money grab for the city."

    No it's not.
They gave the owner a choice, after all.
They won't get a dime of the fine if the owner backs down. And the result won't be any different for the dog in any case.
The owner was not responsible enough to keep the dog in their own yard. Both the owner and the dog will suffer now because of that irresponsibility.

This dog didn't bother anything so why don't they give him the dog back, he leaves town and doesn't bring it back? The issue is taken care of. I will agree if the dog had attacked someone or another pet unprovoked to put it down. Didn't happen here.
I will say if someone's dog attacks my pets, a cat and golden retriever, we're going to have a problem. The other owner probably won't like the result. I like all friendly dogs I meet regardless of breed and some people. I don't care about a dog walking into my yard and am more forgiving of that than a person snooping in my property. The person knows better the dog usually doesn't but some are trained very well.

Salinas KS the town that's tough enough to euthanize dogs based on the type of breed but soft on crime committed by people. A simple explanation is the city council must like to join in on the crime.

I've seen this scenario many of times. The thing with pit bulls and other large animals is not that they are all bad. The issue is that there has been case after case of good dogs gone crazy just randomly. Something sets them off just out of nowhere. The real issue is that these large animals and also pit bulls can cause so much damage in a short amount of time. Imagine what a pissed off pit bull can do in the minute or so that it takes someone to stop it or for the police/ems to arrive.

The problem is it starts with one or two breeds, next 3 more, next it's every dog has to have DNA on file, WTF, will it ever stop?

This can also be said spot on for certain groups of people so can we fix that the same way? I'd rather take my chances with this pit bull it seems much friendlier.

Which 'certain groups of people' are you referring to, exactly?
