Gangs, rioters, vandals, thieves, terrorists, drug dealers etc. and anyone associated with it. If you're looking for a race you're off. There's good and bad in everyone and everything. Condemning a breed based on what may happen is stupid period. If the individual is a problem deal with it. Those groups I listed along with others are a real problem and should be dealt with. Instead many in society coddle them and says it's ok because they'd really like to join them.

I think you were waiting for something else and I don't want to see this thread get locked so to prevent this from going political I'll refrain from posting anymore on it. I stand with it's a BS ordinance unless the dog was viscous.

You brought up the topic, and I wasn't 'waiting' for any certain response.

But, I'll name one group - or 'breed'.
    ISIS
They seem like rabid dogs, to the whole world but themselves.
They, however, see themselves as something good for the world based on their own idealism.

    Back to topic...
If a certain breed of dog is more aggressive, and unpredictably so at that, steps might reasonably be taken to ensure the safety of everyone.
And I'll again mention that the owner was not being responsible. The dog was allowed to wander free, and thus posed a real (albeit potential) danger to others.
If that had not been the case, this would not even be an issue. We would not even be discussing it.

'WAS' is the key word in that statement.
Because it is in the past sense.
It implies that an incident happened, and that possibly someone was badly hurt in the process.

The law is to prevent the 'was' aspect from ever happening (yet again).

I feel bad for the dog. The owner...not so much. Anyone that's into pit bulls (i.e. My GF thinks they're adorable) knows enough to check local ordinances BEFORE moving to a new area (even if just for an over-nighter). 10:1 odds this guy knew his dog wasn't permitted within the city limits. My $.02..other than the breed politics issue (which I'm not wading into)...this is an issue of personal accountability...which was lacking on the part of this dogs owner. Period.

My husky knows how to open sliding glass doors and any door with a lever handle.
If you ever had a pet you would know that despite your best efforts they sometimes can get away.

The crux of this story is that the driver was not staying at his home so that place was not pet proof and now due to stupid city laws that pet is going to be put down. If the dog attacked someone I could see their reason for putting her down but killing a dog just because it's a certain breed is very ignorant.

Who's fault was that? The city's or his? Being responsible isn't that tough. Why bring a dog that's banned into a place that it's banned in? And ignorance of the law is no excuse. It sucks that all this is happening but he needed to be a responsible adult and he chose not to.

Putting a dog down just because it exists is the lowest form of control requiring no thought or rationale whatsoever. Growing up around rotties and pit bulls all my life, I know that they are no more 'pre-dispositioned' for violence than any other dog breed. It all about the owner and how they are raised. We all have dog stories. Some of the nicest dogs I have ever known where pit bulls and I've also seen extremely viscous Labradors. All about the owners....

Instead of bothering the people just doing their job why not call the mayor or city council of Salina and put the pressure on them? Animal Control doesn't make the rules, they just enforce them. Why should the people working at the shelter have to shovel animal $*** and then listen to 187 voicemails exclaiming "Free the dog, free the dog"?

So he was THERE when the officer showed up for the dog? And he LET the officer take her? Wow. Officer would have been given the choice to leave now empty handed under your own power, or push the issue and be hauled off in a bag...'cuz you ain't taking my dog. A good dog will sacrifice itself for its master, and a good dog owner will do the same for his dog. As soon as animal control takes possession of the animal, there isn't a whole heck of a lot you can do about it short of a jail break. Bust in & get her...and release all of the other critters in the mean time too, so that they can't pin it on you saying "yours is the ONLY animal missing!"

Either that or make sure you vote. Make sure the animal control officer, prosecutor, judge, and every other elected official knows that the next time they are up for re-election, you'll spend whatever it takes to make sure they are defeated. The dog didn't cause any harm to anyone, and shouldn't be put down. Heck, get PETA, HSUS, ASPCA, and all of the other animal rights groups involved protesting and causing havoc. Obviously the media is already on the story...but it needs to be the "local" stations that can sway public opinion away from "city leaders", not just a trucking organization magazine which reaches a small segment of the population nationwide. There are plenty of ways to make life difficult for elected officials...
