Our tanks are 90% smooth bore. And the rest 3 compartment,And with 13sp, 10 sp and the auto and I really prefer this auto I'm in. Now I've not pulled any serious grades with it but id have now worries. The only surge that concerns me is side to side as in slowing down for cornering

So basically buying a truck with an Autoshift would not be uber detrimental. Just need to learn to do some things a little different, again.

The smoothbores I have pulled I would normally wind up in manual mode starting and stopping. Engine can over rev or fool computer and shift a couple of gears higher then what you want. That is normally in heavy DFW traffic with morons cutting you off and such. IN rural areas just leave it in auto and take time as you should always do with liquid. It's a different animal and if you just want to hot rod from light to light you are in wrong business. -
Love the autoshift....one less thing I have to do.

I hear ya...I just rather shift her myself then to have her do it for me....I dont trust auto with a tanker...even though I would love not to shift....its just a love hate thing lol
