I work for a small chemical company now (3 road drivers, private fleet). Very laid back mgmt and flexible, home every weekend and sometimes during the week.

I have no doubt that Gemini is "better" than Schneider in most respects. But again, it depends what you want.

Schneider treated me pretty good. Huge carrier, yes, but the terminal personnel you deal with, you get to know pretty well. First few months were tough, but after that it got easy. You just gotta hang in there and learn,, learn to deal with some BS, learn the job.

When I walked into my next job, I was comfortable. I'd been in all the same neighborhoods and even a few of the same places. And being a small company, they don't have the training resources, so that put me and my one year Schneider exp ahead of guys without chem tanker exp.

Again, it's all about what you want. The prev guy had a good suggestion,, go to loves and talk to the drivers. There's plenty of Schneider bulk info on this forum, but I haven't seen much Gemini info.

    Good luck!

I appreciate the suggestion to talk to a Love's tanker driver at their truck stop. However, this Gemini work is for tanker work hauling crude oil. So, I think what I'd like to do is have the Regional Manager let me talk to some drivers.

At some point my man, you just have to jump. Every driver is going to have a different take. Either way commit in your head to a year at least and trust me you will be in a good position for tankers.

Do you have any comments about crude oil hauling vs. chemical hauling? Thanks!

Yes, thanks Ethos. Gemini didn't work out for me, they took over a week to get back with me after I called their RM because the recruiter never responded to my inquiries. Anyway, another company on my list is Service Transport Co. They pay by percentage, they have a mixture of OTR, Reg, and Local, you don't get to pick, mostly hazmat tanker, 99% load done by someone else, about 85% someone unloads for you, no set home time, automatic trans in trucks, 6 to 7 weeks with trainer @ 100 per day, loads delivered then return trip to home terminal always, then wait for next dispatch.

Would Schneider Regional be a better choice for a guy that wants to make 60k with SNI's 6 days off per month feature, and working out of Houston?

Check out Air Liquide. If you don't mind a little Otr. He said they get home every other week or more. Guys that want to be home more 70-80's a year. Guys that want to be out and run hard 80-100k. They haul their stuff to oil fields. The hiring manager was pretty nice when I talked to him and is a straight shooter. I think as a Otr job it's probably one of the best. I put a app in and they called right away. Looking to fill the position quick. I had to pass cause it's too much Otr for me at this point. Not sure what your looking for in home time.

I would try Trimac, you will make 80k a year first year but I warn you now, it's hard to get on here but you might. Try and see. If not put in your time with Schneider, they are great for a training company. Don't go Regional, you get less money and you can still get 6 days off a month doing OTR. If you do take six days off a month though there is no way you are hitting 60k.

Thanks Ethos! I think I will start paying my dues right now, and just get on board with someone like Service Transport and see how it goes. Like you said, I just need to jump in for now and get my feet wet again. I've owned my own business before, and I have an accounting and tax background, so maybe O/O is in the future.

newbiuserectus said it better than I could of.

i drive for Gemini and I usually finish my day in 10 hours, I can always call dispatch and ask for more work if I finish too early but I usually don't since I'm happy with what I make in that time. I do only work 5 days a week and my off days are during the week. Other than working holidays those two things are the only cons I can say about this company. I average about $290 a day(make $400 on good days) and am always very well rested. It all depends on how your work ethic is, if you like to take your time, stop at every store a take a break, #### chat with other drivers after you finish loading at the racks you'll end up working 12 hours or more. But it also depends on the terminal you're at, some terminals average less than others but the company offers a $200 minimum, so if for some reason you couldn't even make 200 in your 12 hour shift the company will give u the difference

Gemini is hard to get into unless you have a lot of experience or were referred by a current reputable driver. If you really want to get in with the company I would recommend what another poster suggested and speak to a driver at a store and see if maybe they could refer you. Afterall we do get paid a referral bonus.
