What is the best way to get around the top of your tanker when its covered by ice? I'd you don't have a torch?

Don't, if possible. When I have to, I wear my boots, and make sure I have a good footing on the catwalk before shifting my weight. If you're talking about a dry bulk with no catwalks, then good luck to you, your guess is as good as mine.

With the bulks we usually have the drop down gates at the loading zones or we load feom the side pipe. But on our sludge tanks we have a 6" lip all around the top with 2 drains in the rear but it dont help much. I was thinking maybe throwing cat liter when i walk on it

What about carrying a big container of Morton table salt in your jacket with the pour out spout. Sprinkle it out as you walk. It provides traction as well as melts it. Its an ol bullhaulers trick, it may work for you to.

I observed a ladder strapped to the hose-rack of a bulk Truck recently.

I normally bang on the Cat walks with my hammer or spanner wrench to knock the ice off. If its snow sweep them first. I haven't had many problems actually. If there is a whole bunch of freezing rain solid ice up there that can't be knocked off I am probably not running anyway.
