    I doubt if he's making 1800 working 5 days, i know drivers that 6 days every week and dont make 2000, that's 400 a day, if he $50 a load that's 8 loads a day unlikely

Not quite. I got hired hauling diesel to frac sites out of school. Company went down after a few months, so I got a job hauling crude. THAT company screwed up too, so now I'm hauling fuel out to gas stations, and I am not about to change. This job is easy.

I have seven months in and all I've ever hauled is hazmat tankers. I wouldn't know where to start with one of those box trailers. They look like a big PITA.

I knew I hade the best job around only because I did not know of any others. I got paid when I came though the gate and it stopped when I went home. There was no pressure put on me and as long as I did my job everyone was happy. Sure, we had intense training sections but we had to so we could minimize the hazards. But a rolling bomb it wasn't. If you know the properties of the product then you know how to reduce the hazards to reach a safer environment. The least amount of notice you bring to the truck is better for all. Get in and drop your load, no spills, no run offs, or any other problems was great. Then back for another.

The Company made sure that their pay scale was well above normal to keep the drivers that they have already paid funds into would not go down the road. So in the long run you had drivers that stayed and retired and were very happy to be with them. Bit just like everything else, a good thing never lasts. I was lucky and got in the tail end of things. I spent a total time of 1991 to 2001 but did alright. They have three retirement programs. The standard 401K with two extras. The CAP and Savings. The CAP you could put up to 10% of your earrings but the company would only put up to 6% up to 6% after that no matter how much you put in you would not see any of it unless you retired. The saving plan was a little different You could put in as much to get the company;s max and if you needed money you could borrow the money from yourself and paid yourself back the interest.

Anyway it was a great place to work until all good things must come to an end. I got out early with the goldenhandshake and did all right. Buy now those days are gone but there are some good jobs still there to be had. It just take the know how on how to land them.

I'm hauling by the load, but I can't complain. Plus, I start at around 4a and I'm usually done by 2-3p, so the hours are great. And, no weekends, unless I volunteer. There are fringe benefits too like a pretty good lunch every day (we have delis with hot food at most of the stores), discounts and such.

I work for a guy who owns a couple dozen stations and that's all we service. Four drivers for three trucks. The other guys are kinda part-time, while I put in about 50-55hr a week. The pay is not the top of the scale, but I can live with it. I make most of my money on split loads, which can turn a $40 run into a $100 run in a hurry. I actually had a load last week that made $150 when I had four stops on that load. I would like to get hourly plus OT, but for now I'm fine with what I have. I only started here a few weeks ago, but so far, so good. Boss is happy, co-workers all seem happy, and I'm happy, so it's all good.

Beats hauling crude 14 hours a day, I can tell you that.

I've only had it made for six months and I really love this job, Grant it it's not as good as it once was I hope what we have stays around. I get to here all the golden day stories from the old timers but hell we still ain't got it that bad compared to the common carriers.
