It appears to be getting worse from the time I started driving this truck. Is this much seepage normal or should I be concerned?
Is this too much seepage on my hoist?

Seals?
would have them checked before they blow out.
I have a John Deere Tractor and never see any leaks on the arms.Mattnatti Thanks this. -
Hi Mattnatti, I don't think that's severe. If it leaves a puddle on the ground, that's getting bad. I pulled a dump trailer for several years, and I always had oil on the hoist like that, and many times, I would stock pile and do 6 or 7 loads a day. The boss said it lubricated the ram. I think when the box is down, no pressure on the seal, it seeps a little, and when you raise the box, it runs down, but it's probably the same oil, not new oil. It takes a lot of oil to raise the box, so just keep an eye on the oil level.

Thanks Semi, I will be keeping a sharper eye on it as I cannot recall it being like this on all of the stages. I average 10 loads a day and sometimes get 14-15 so the hoist does get a workout. And unlike the frameless guys I am sometimes on not so level ground as I am pulling the short box so I am sure that there would be some extra stress on it from going up at a very slight angle.
As always, thanks for the sage wisdom."semi" retired Thanks this. -

if you get a decent day weather wise clean up your hoist and then keep an eye on it after a couple loads give you an idea if its NEW OIL leaking or as SEMI RETIRED said the same oil.
Be sure and block things when your cleaning the hoist with the box up"semi" retired and Mattnatti Thank this. -
Thanks Flatbed, I will do what you suggested and clean the hoist up and get a baseline from there to see whether the oil is new or not.
@Semi, yeah that does seem like quite a day load wise but most days i do less than 250 miles. Burning tight circles I do.
I do have the itch to get out on the open road pulling dump as the short mileage days aren't always satisfying but I have a pretty decent gig now and it would be hard to leave it. -
You'll be alright for now but the seal is obviously leaking and will eventually need replaced.
Mattnatti Thanks this. -
You know, Mattnatti ,if you have seepage on your hoist, you might want to see a doctor. (couldn't resist)
