I got a call about a " slinger" dump truck job. Owner said he would train me. What are the uses for a slinger and are they fairly easy to operate?

    Thanks

Used for getting material (gravel, soil, mulch, etc.) in hard-to-reach places or as an alternative to placement by wheelbarrow, Bobcat, loader, etc.

I have not done this myself but have friends who do. You can get pretty good with one of those ! To the point where using belt speed, door opening, and aiming you can fill a basement nice and level, almost ready for concrete.

Challenges would be getting good with the controller, getting to know the regular contractors you will work with, getting to know the area (the guys I know do like UPS), and delivering to jobsites you'll be going places trucks ain't never been everyday and some contractors only make it to get their pickups in.

That's means broken underground pipes. I used to tell the job sup. to get the (as built) prints and anyone who could identify the underground utilities to make sure there's nothing to damage. Then when you do bust a pipe, and you will, it's not your fault.

I've run a slinger. It's an okay job as long as its a new enough truck to be totally remote control. As for the unforseen utilities and such. On the back of most aggregate weigh tickets is a damage waver. Have them sign it. It relieves the driver and the company of any responsibility for damage past the curb line. If you put a lot of effort into the job and get good, you'll make everyone's life easier. Including yours. Good luck.

    F150Jim Thanks this.
