The big-city men seemed out of place in the nostalgic saloon setting that will soon be the new Willie’s Place truck stop, restaurant and #####-tonk. Its grand opening is set for July 3 — complete with a concert from its namesake and part owner, the Red-Headed Stranger himself.
While construction seemingly halted for months on Willie’s Place, Cornelius insisted it was always in progress.

“Things just take a while, and we wanted to do it right,” he said. “We’re basically building a little city out here.”
The place is every beer drinkin’, tobacco spittin’ cowboy’s dream.
A cozy restaurant with a menu already boasting the best chicken fried steak.

A poker room.
And a Billy Bob’s-style #####-tonk that all but promises to be frequented by Willie Nelson (he has his own, private tour bus parking garage attached to the building that leads directly onstage).

I'd been wondering if this place would ever get off the ground. I find it interesting that they mention a poker room, considering that poker-for-house-profit is illegal in the state of Texas. I'm all for the idea of playing poker without having to pay the house!

Wow,Its a real pitty the T/S has been closed and all.I was not of age enough to spend time at Mickey "Gilleys" place.
But I had many a good time at Carls Corner,as many of us
The Texas laws also made for sort of a lame titty bar also.But Carls spared no expense and really did a great job when they remodeled to include the pleasure women.
One neat thing I remember was the joint had its own zip code.I would check call in from Carls Corner,and flag it in my comic book.

If anyone cares. They are having a big shing ding tomorrow evening(july3 6pm). This is part of the grand opening Karl's Korner. Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and singer something Price. Sorry, I didn't catch the first name. The concert is free to anyone. Beer is not.......... could be a great show and good time
