I see Firestick 5/8 fibreglass being sold, I know its been on the market for years, but they seem to be the only manufacturer or at least the others are not listing whether its 1/4 wave or just assumed?
There is plenty of reading material on 5/8 in the 2m band (mostly about radiation angle), but will it perform the same for 11m?
It sounds wonderful that it would have a db gain aiming toward horizon, instead of up; but I hesitate because I'd expect more mfg's would've claimed the same thing.
Any thoughts?
1/4 vs 5/8 wave

Wilson Silverload is another. For base antennas, the Super Penetrator was listed as a 5/8ths wave, claiming to get more of the radiated power into the ground wave. I have had good result with the Firestick, but I haven't checked with a field strength meter.

Moving the load closer to the top of the antenna is supposed to drop the angle of radiation lower as well from what I've heard. It definitely works for me

I have a fire stick 5/8 wave 2 meter fiberglass antenna. Best 2 meter antenna I own.

OK got it. I thought you were talking about mobile antennas.
Dave's article mentioned the Super Penetrator, I had one I bought in 1978 and setup for 10 meters for a long time and the ice took it down while I was on the road about 8 years back or so. My wife had a roofer take it all off the roof because of the damage to the roof from the ice backing up and he tossed it into the dumpster, was I pissed.
The funny thing is I bought the crossbow "archer" .64 wavelength at an estate sale last year, the lady running it made me get it out of the attic after she sold me all the cbs this guy had (34 in all), she wanted 30 for it I told her for the amount of work I went through to get it, 5 was all I'll give her and she said "ok". I've got to clean it up and it will end up on the roof some time next year at the new place.
Well anyway I understand now what you are talking about and really can't add much to what they say.TheDude1969 Thanks this. -
