I have been having trouble with some of the male 12 volt plugs. They are not well made and when you are on rough roads will often lose connections. Problem appears to be the metal band that makes contact with the shell of the dash female connector. I have to watch the one on my cooler. Does anyone know of a well made connector? Thanks.

These work fine for me at $1.49 each.

Some of the female sockets allow more movement, I haven't had much luck with any plug with the smooth sided sockets. Toothpicks jammed in to make them snug is about all that works.

Koolatron has a plug that stays in but that plug only comes with the cord. It also breaks apart, but I stick it back together, plug it in, and that one stays.

I made a replacement plug. I used 2 prong 120 household plug. The polarized plug keeps you from plugging it in wrong. Guess what! The plug was no longer hot to the touch.

Use the Tongs off a plastic fork or a couple of cable ties between the connector and the plug... it will help hold it tight..

Little strips of duct tape wrapped around it also work as well as keeping it centered in the plug

I cut one off when I had binding posts on a cb pad, in the gray Columbia, that worked the best of anything, and that was a darned Coleman, worked just fine, but the truck left, and the replacement was not equipped that way.

The Koolatron I have now is smaller, and works behind the passenger seat, out of the way, the plug staying in is another bonus. Regional, so I don't need to carry as much now.
