if you take time to go home that close...then you look at a longer training period and poss have to wait for another trainer.... thats what im used to seeing... i could be wrong, some times its worth the wait and take your time off when you get your own truck

Usually you dont want to bring your RPM lower then the peak tq numbers but thats just my knowledge of diesels.....

This is my 3rd Cascadia.... awesome truck. Started my first 09 Cascadia flatbedding and ran a 7.3 from Mar09 to Dec 09. Then I started learning the truck.... the video is right and wrong... my sweetspot is the cruise control in most instances. Roads, hills, mountains, weather and load all play a big part as to how high or low the mileage will be. By the end of the year had improved my mileage.
Switched to Refer side and went up again...then I felt the shifting improve...all at lower RPMs. There is a 300 rpm difference up or down shifting, clutch or floating (floating being easier). I started the year with BAD mileage in January and half of February... but kept the shifting at just under 1200 rpms... mileage went up. From January to December, running solo for about a month of time, super solo for about 4 months and the remaining 5 months running teams....I have run from 125000k to 320000k with an 8.01mgp average.
In June I put Air-tabs on and improved my mileage from .2 to .5 in the right conditions, on my mileage. I drove Kingman to california with 32.2mpg (2 gallons of fuel for over 60 miles), made it to Fresno, Ca still getting 10.0 mpg and back to the top of flag (2 38,000lbs loads in and out) and kept 8.2. Fuel mileage at 8.4 from Barstow, Ca to Springfield, Mo. 9.2 to 9.5 on several trips from Colton, Ca to Jacksonville, Fl. 8.4 from Oklahoma City, Ok to Roanoke, Va.....
The fuel mileage can be HAD...right loads, conditions and the same diligence. Entire month of October2010 had 8.69 for over 21000 miles. Great fuel mileage, lower shifting (consistantly) and steady driving under 1300 rpm there is awesome fuel mileage to be had out of a cascadia....your trainer is right and doing it right. -
