Approximate cost to replace oil cooler in a Cat c15

    What is an approximate cost to replace an oiler cooler in a Cat c15...labor and all

    914.88 is what it cost me to have mine removed and a new one installed. This was done when mine was getting rebuilt, so you may see an increased labor cost over what mine was. Because my turbos were already off.

    Are you replacing the cooler because you are getting oil in your coolant or because you have cold leaks from the cooler.If your problem is cold leaks from the cooler you can buy the o-rings for the cooler 3 large ones from cat or kw for the exorbanent price they charge (nearly $100.00) all the rest you can get from an o-ring asst kit for under $20.00. I had not resealed one before and it didn't take me much over 1 hour, these things are very simple and if you have been maintaining your coolant system should really have nothing wrong with the actual cooler. Both cat and kw really overcharge on these selling many replacements long before they are needed. tom

    I know this is a older thread but I'm hoping maybe you could give me a quick run down on what u had to do to replace the orings on the cooler I have to do mine next week. Mines in a Pete 387 so hoping its really not gonna take me too long. I got the service manual but sometimes its always nice to here how its done from someone that has actually done it versus reading it in a book.

    You have to do it in two sections. Drain coolant and remove the two bolts from bottom of water pump the front neck will slip out with some persuasion. The adapter ring normally causes the biggest problem. make sure you separate the adapter ring once removed and clean all three surfaces, the back side of the water pump and the oil cooler.

    The back half is somewhat easy to get off by unbolting from side of block. hardest part is to get it back on without cutting o-ring. Use a good slippery grease on o-rings when installing.

    I got it done but of coarse pinched one boring on front of cooler and its behind the frame rail so you can't see what's going on. I ended up taking the bottom turbo off both time and the precooler the.second time I did it. I wish I would have just took the precooler off the first time.
