I have 08 prostar and I noticed a hissing noise by the air compressor area when the motor is running but could never check it out because it would stop before I pop the hood. It wouldn't make the noise if the engine was off intill 2 days ago when it continuously dumped air and I noticed it was coming from a hose fitting connected to the air dryer so I changed the cartiger then I noticed my air pressure was building to high 140 psi and it wasn't purging so I changed the governor and that fixed that issue but now it will purge at 125 but makes this annoying hissing sound every time it purges and I have to watch my rpm so my air pressure doesn't go pass 125 psi. Im not sure if I should change out the purge valve or just replace the air dryer since it hasn't been changed. Any advice or prior experience with this issue will be appreciated also my air dryer is Bendix as-Id part# 802191.

Does the hissing sound like a rattle snake? I wonder if your air compressor is not cutting out properly because it is carboned up.

If it make the rattleing noise chances are the unloader valve on the compressor is defective. A loose governor were seal between governor and compressor could also do this as well. I've also seen a blocked or kinked air line between governor and air dryer

Also, was told most new governors are set to the 140-145 range at the factory. Last 2 I purchased were.

If you have an ISX it is probably the unloader inside the compressor head that is carboned up. You would replace the whole head of the compressor, but some have had some success of a cleaner you can spray into it. Not sure what it is, never done that, maybe someone else can chime in.

With an ISX, yep! Very common repair. I also recommend replacing the orings for the coolant fittings. Those do not come with the head kit.
