I was a OTR driver for 20 some years. Then went local.
Going back to OTR and wondering what type of TV antenna to get for my truck.
Any suggestions for something easy to mount and will pick up the over the air digital?
Best antenna for digital TV
Thanks! I have not been OTR since the digital transition.
I have a nice HD flat screen to go in the truck and would be happy to just get the networks in metro areas.
I found one online that is an adhesive type tape that will fit just under the air dam on top of the cab. That will get it up over 13 ft high...
Might give that a try.
If you're in a fibreglass sleeper it will work just as fine in the top of a cabinet as mounted outsde. A metal sleeper, then you need to get it outside. Height isn't a big factor but it is when the next guy parks his truck in backwards between you and the tower! If you are going to mount it outside then you might need to get an extention of the same coax or type of wire and good silcone tape for a waterproof seal. Yes electrical tape is good only if you use it correctly!
Regular electrical tape should be stretched as it's wrapped around the connector or cut. not just loosely wrapped on. If you use something like 3M silicone tape remove the plastic siding cover and as you wrap it stretch it also . Silicone tape "melts" together and seals better than regular tape. Also if taping like trailer or tractor wiring wipe it down to remove dirt.
I've got a "V" shaped antenna mounted on my qualcom mount. It's not that great, and when some trucks go by, the signal goes bye-bye and I get the "no signal" on my screen. This antenna can't be mounted any higher. My next step is to head to Walmart and get an indoor power antenna. I've heard one can be had for like under $20.
I can make my own cable lines.I have a roll of the RG-6 thick cable and the tools to put the connectors on.
I worked a short time for the local cable company...lol!
I would love to rig up the same antenna that is on my RV...It has the 12 volt signal booster and picks up about 50 miles. Just not sure where to mount it.
Looks like i will get a assigned truck at the new job so i have to wait and see what it is.
It will either be a Volvo or International....Man i hope it is the International..
