Hi there. Can someone explain which provinces allow lift axles from the west (BC) over to Ontario (Qbec if you know as well) Also, what about wheel base with the lift axle. Are there exemptions for US Trucks.

Are US Trucks allowed with heavier then 12.5 front axle. What about a 16K front axle.

Well I know BC, AB, SK, MB won't allow lift axles on trucks. We all run tri drives. Only wheelbase exemptions are for true tridrives and or specialty trucks with winches and pickers etc. Yes you can have a 16K front axle.

Is that they won't allow lift axles on the truck, or won't allow the lift axle on the ground.???

I would assume they are ok to be on the truck out in BC/AB. Just not on the ground though. I see CanAm trucks running through there all the time with the lift axles up.

Yup I go to BC quite a bit. 12 on the steers and 37 on the drives with the lift up.

As for wheelbase I know for sure that BC and AB will let you buy permits for US trucks with a WB over 244". I can't remember the exact cost but it wasn't anything absurd. We have to order them anytime our trucks go up there because we run 3 Pete 379s and a W900 that all are over 250" WB. My T880 is even longer at 264".

I think AB was something like $30 per year for our entire company and BC was around $80 for a 30 day permit.

Best bet is to just phone the delta bc scale and the scale in Leduc Alberta to get the guaranteed answers. I forgot about the permit for bc/ab.

Last I checked I can go to BC with mine- but the lift has to be chained (lifted up) prior to entry. Been awhile, things may have changed.

Keep in mind that a permit for an over length tractor voids your ability to permit for oversize.
It also shortens the allowable wheelbase for your trailer. There is a sliding scale for up to I think a 280" tractor. Trailer wheelbase drops to around 38'. Not that big of a deal with a box trailer sliding tandem but good luck with an open deck trailer.
I finally shortened my truck to 244". And it still pisses me off.

    Ruthless Thanks this.
