    That's just political propaganda.

Don't need a visa to travel within the country or move unless you're a foreigner.

That's cold hard fact. Great Firewall of China, invented to keep the Chinese from learning the truths about their communist leader and western ideology..Blocks google, facebook, youtube, twitter, new york times (seriously???), drop box, and many more popular sites. Without consent. Just another freedom stolen....

New York Times doesn't make sense anyway; it's too biased.
Those others were blocked because of pornography being rampant on the sites. You can pretty much do what you want behind closed doors in China, just don't flaunt it in public.
It's easy to get around the Google block by using a smart phone. Yahoo isn't blocked and it's just as good as Google. I spend a lot of time in China and it's not at all like the politicians blather about in USA; if it was like that I wouldn't waste my hard earned money there. I even own a home there and also get excellent medical care at the PLA Naval Hospital and PLA Air Force Hospital. Don't go there often, but it's just for minor stuff anyway. My wife told them I'm a US Navy veteran, so they treat me like royalty; they have the utmost respect for sailors and Merchant Seamen from any country.

Yeah Chinatown I don't expect you to give in. The Chinese special forces will snatch you. You shouldn't have to bypass anything in a free country.

And by the way I'm not replying anymore because I refused to be banned by making a statement about commies

Think about that the next time you cross the scales or a small town cop or state trooper starts harassing you or those cameras in the truck monitoring what you do and say.

OK, we can end it here so the moderators don't get us.

I'm speaking as a foreigner and it is a hard country to move round in as such.
I'm leaving on Sunday for China and need to visit 4 provinces but am given little flexibility as to dates and cant decide where to stay when I get there. A full itinerary with dates travel plans and accommodation has to be submitted for approval before a visa is granted. You need proof of this as well. Also 3 months of bank statements have to be supplied. Hey its their country and their rules and I'm a guest so I have a choice. In contrast I can get on a plane and fly to the USA any time I want and go where I want for up to 6 months in a year.

As for propaganda being in full swing , I fully agree.
I watch 5 international news channels and propaganda and bias pours from all of them but the most unbiased and least agenda driven I find is the Chinese one and the worst are the American and Russian.
    Just my opinion.

@king Q I've never had to do any of that for some reason. When I travel within the country they do check my passport at train stations, etc. and if I stay in one location for an extended time must check in at the local police station to let them know.'
My step son went there and tried to apply for visa online and ran into the same problems you're having so someone told him to visit a travel agency to avoid all that; bank statements, etc. He did that and then just gave an address where he would be; hotel or private residense, either would do. It was a travel agency with a Chinese guy working there, so he dealt with him because the Chinese guy said none of that stuff is really needed. One time I didn't check in with the local police within 24 hours, so they sent someone to me to check my passport. She was one of those Chinese beauties that on a scale of 1 to 10 would be a 15. That was several years ago and she and my wife still chat on the phone as friends.
You're so right about the news; I also watch CCTV and read several foreign news sites. Russian and American are the worst for bias. I've seen American news pictures showing Chinese military glaring at a camera and reporters saying how ruthless they are. I started laughing because the guys are security guards at a mall. They do glare at you, but if you speak to them they immediately start smiling and try to help you. a
American generals and admirals are totally worthless and just puppets for the politicians. They like to prod and poke a hornets nest, then when the hornets get angry, they blame the hornets. Those top brass in the military need to shut up and retire; they make America look like a bunch of fools. It's good to get outside a situation, then look back in to see what's really going on.
Looks like England and Australia are finally getting the message that the whole world isn't a big boogyman out to get them and now starting to concentrate on their own people and country instead of trying to rule the world.

    @Chinatown.
You are correct in my opinion.
We are taking an interpreter with us who is of Chinese decent but not a citizen.
He is from a city about 1000 miles from where I am and applied at a different Chinese embassy for his visa.
He got his Visa granted in 3 days on the same documentation we had to get amended 3 times.
I was in China in May and getting a Visa for one city was also easier.
I will try to apply for a multiple entry 1 year visa next and see how that goes.
I have not been to China on leisure but always try add a day or two for such activities.
I love the USA and most of my immediate family live there but even if you have never been to the USA you have some idea as what to expect due to years of entertainment culture focus. China on the other hand can be a huge eye opener if all you have known was western media portrayal.
Also it really does seem that Australia and England have finally realized that its a global economy and you are allowed or rather need more than one friend.

China has a 10 yr. multiple entry visa, but don't know if it's issued in South Africa or not. Probably is.
