Just out of curiosity, is it possible to get a kicker to handle the output of a connex 4600 turbo? I know it's a radio with a small linear in it already, but just wondered if anyone has ever done it.

Sure it is, you just need a big enough kicker

Thanks! Its around 200 now. I'm not used to a radio with a heat sink in the bottom. Sucker gets warm if I'm talking back and forth, but when I stop, it cools down. Just wondered about what sort of amp I'd need. Get me somewhere around a 1000 output. I already have 8 ga. Wire from the battery running to it.

This guy does it every day with great results.

Other people try with disastrous results or mediocre results

Maybe a better way of phrasing it would be is it possible to adjust the output of the transmitter to make the amplifier happy.
The answer is yes with a good technician.

What that video shows me is the input to the amplifier is not tuned to 50 ohms (the output of the transmitter). Which is something I've seen on many amplifiers.

What that video also shows is that if you install the radio and amplifier in your vehicle using the supplied cable you will have flawless performance on AM within a moderate frequency range with performance decreasing the further you get from 27.205 mhz, but if you use any other cable you will have all kinds of problems Unless the phase angle is the same or a multiple of same between the two cables.

I had a 4600 for years even use an amp with it for few years, but if you want's to play with that kind of power you better be on top of your game....i mean making sure swr is okay and everything stay right on track cuz if you blew something up it will cost you.

At one point i sold the amp and kept the 4600 few more years, the 4600 alone with a good antenna are making a really decent job.

    Enjoy!

That what I wanted to know. Thank you. I put a mfj-259 on it. Reading is really good on my wilson 2000 once I clipped about 1inch or so off the whip. If I put a amp on this thing, I wonder what antenna I should go with or will the wilson 2000 handle it? I found a fatboy amp on the net that sounds like it would work. Could possibly put out around 1400 PEP.

Don't see any problem with the wilson 2K, good quality coax is really important too!!!

Did you mention what kind of truck you will be running that set up?

I am asking because grounding might be an issue...
