Im thinking about going to work for Covenant Transport. I havent driven a truck in a little over 3 years so I will have to take a refresher course, and with Covenant Transport the refresher course is free. Anyway, after reading some of the threads on this site I was wondering if I will have to team up for six months also like the newbies, because if that is the case then Im not sure I want to put myself through that mental torture? I was thinking a short refresher course followed by a couple of weeks of training and I should be good to go, and I certainly dont want to have to team up with anyone for six months. Hence, under my circumstances, will I have to team up like the newbies, and does anyone know how long the refreshers course last and what the training program is for drivers going through the refresher course routine?
How about the trucks, what kind of trucks is Covenant buying today? Will the newer ones have APUs and inverters? If not, what is the largest size inverter Covenant will let you put in them. How old are the oldest trucks and at about what mileage do they trade them in? What are the chances of getting a newer one? Is it the luck of the draw or is it done by seniority?
As for as everything else goes, Im sure I can handle anything Covenant will throw at me, and Im looking forward to getting back on the road.

I have a friend who drove for Werner for a while, also drove passenger bus but when she went to Covenant, they "considered" her inexperienced and made her team for 6 months....
It will all depend my friend.... they will lure you to orientation and then hit you with the sad news, depending on how much experience you have and the time you have been away from the truck, they will consider you new, inexperienced driver and tell you to team....
Better call the company BEFORE you sign up for orientation, give them ALL your profile, experience, what you have in mind, etc so you don't have sad surprise later.
Teaming lasts 6 months minimum.
Don't know anything about their refresher course.
Nowadays Covenant is buying International ProStar (mid roof, very small inside) and Freightliner Cascadia. All these new trucks have APUs and ELECTRONIC LOGS.
The new trucks are given only to safe drivers with seniority, brownie points, trainers, and teams....
A new solo driver will get an older truck (maybe Columbia year 2007 or so).
The oldest trucks are 2007 and are being sold now cause they lost their warranty. The oldest trucks have about 500 thousand miles or more and have no APUs (some have bunk heaters).
You buy your own power inverter (no more than 1000 watts) and pay $ 100.00 for shop to install them.
Everytime they switch your truck, if you want to to have your power inverter installed, you pay again.
Idle is no more than 30 % for solo drivers and co. threats to charge $5.00 per hr if driver idles above their limit.
Solo drivers at Covenant don't make much money and many end up teaming or training to stay in the company...

Ouu, how about up to 1 day off for every 7 worked !!
So with the one day off every 7 days worked, plus the 2-3 days sitting at Pilot (not running the A/C) waiting for a load, heck you're really getting 3-4 days off a week !!

BTW, per diem is mandatory! You end up losing money cause Cov. doesn't count all your days on the road and you can't claim it on your taxes...
Now Cov. is giving drivers $ 25.00 for good roadside inspections!!
But charging them $ 50.00 for bad ones (this includes warnings too)...
I agree U.S Xpress and Covenant are not owned by the same people. They are indeed owned by two half brothers that dislike each other Max Fuller is the the owner of USX and another guy named Pat I don't remember his last name. I was a driver for U.S. Xpress for five years and I didn't have any major problems with the company. I left the company because I didn't want to drive trucks anymore
