Last week, I ran into a few drivers that were real winners.

We were loading at a port. Two drivers refused to load their motor graders. Another brags about how he pulled an OSOW through the tunnel in Mobile. I asked him about the route and he tells me that they dont pay him to be doing stuff like that.

The drivers that refused to load refused to do so because they didn't want to be liable for any mishaps while loading.

I felt it was best that I keep to myself, and so I went and found my machine and drove it on to the trailer and reattached the neck. The drivers watched and then asked me if I would mind loading theirs. I told them that I couldn't because I didn't want to be liable.

You guessed it, "You're an A Hole!"

    Yes, I am.

Hey guys, little secret: if your company has rgns, odds are pretty good that you will
    1. Pull OSOW
    2. Load at a port.

Many of the ports are self load. You have to find your machine, verify the vin and load it. If you have a problem doing that, you need to find another line of work.
Permitted loads require drivers to read and understand lawyerspeak and be able to read maps, do quite a bit of math, and follow instructions to the letter. If you lack patience, cant read or lack comprehension or have difficulty thinking outside the box, perhaps you should go back to pulling a box or stick with hauling sticks and bricks.

Funny thing...another guy shows up while I was there, loads his wagon but comes over to me asking to borrow my height stick as I am about to leave. How do you guys get by without a height stick? In the OSOW world it's as important as that printer you have. You do have a printer, dont you?

    "You're an A Hole!"

Yes, I am. You show up to load driving a big large car with a fresh wash, but cant seem to be able to afford a height stick, and I'm the Hole because I have a schedule to keep.

I can't say I have a printer since up here I don't need one but I do have a height stick! I've seen the same thing at the port of Tacoma though, drivers coming up to me asking to load there machines. I'll guide them but I'm not getting in there machine and putting it on there trailer.

I agree. I will admit that some of the machines are difficult...like those big haul trucks that articulate in the middle.you cant even see your trailer. But you should be willing to try. If they are unwilling to try, why should you try to help them?

It seems to be the guys that need the hand holding that don't want to try. Imagine if they went to a jobsite with no one around! It's not that hard to get out and look and see where you are on the trailer.
