I'm about to start driving with swift in a week. I understand the training hours take about 6 weeks. When do you think I would see my first home time? Would it be after these 6 weeks? Longer? Before 6 weeks is over? Just curious about what I should expect.

I actually didn't ask my recruiter because I assumed they would tell me something that is not exactly accurate to make the situation sound more attractive.

Don't assume...ask... and tell them to send the resposnse in an email!

Just depends on how the cookie crumbles.
If your focused on getting trained and completing your hours... You should be done in about 4 weeks. I did mine in 27 days with a three day weekend.
In my case, we ended up back in Dallas on day 9... Just by chance on the flow of freight. My trainer noticed a concert he wanted to see. He said "what do you think about a long weekend?"
We then went back to work, until my hours were done.
There was one time , we heading to OKC... We planned to drop down to Dallas for a day. We decided to play around in a few casinos instead.
In short, I was out for week and half,
Then out again for two weeks.
Then done!
We both live in DFW area... -
Keep in mind... It's all about saddle time.
My trainer always told me how far, and where we should be landing when he woke up.
The goal was commonly 600 miles..
I would slow the truck down to 58 and do 620-630. Milk the clock for that extra 20-40 mins each shift.
There is also a new rule that you have to do 50 hours or more each week to get the extra drive pay.Last edited: Nov 10, 2015

Right after you finish training and hop in your own truck. They will try to route you home. They probably wont give you hometime while training for fear that you'll go home and never come back.
-
Typically after the training period, assuming you've passed your final test and the road test, they will issue you a truck and either get you a load routed home or, if you don't care about going home right away, a load wherever is available. Depending on where home is from the terminal you test out at (you don't have to test out at your home terminal. You'll test out wherever you've completed your hours), it might take a couple days to get home, but that will be their priority to get you home.

I was home every weekend during my training at Swift. It all depends on your trainer and where you live.
SHOJim Thanks this. -
It all depends on if you get a trainer that lives in your area if so you'll get home when he takes home time. If u get one that stays out your area you'll be stuck at the truck stop while he's at home chilling. So try and get a trainer that lives in your area.
Remember the more time at home, the longer training will be. It took me almost 8 weeks to finish when I started with them because me and my trainer took a lot of home time!!! GOOD LUCK BRO
