    hello guys!

I have a question: last year in November we had an engine overhaul. It had been under warranty and we had the truck back in the shop several times for coolant leakage. After spending about 20,000 for overhaul, some other parts and the work... Now they want to change another $4,000 part.

At this point, we are wondering if there is something wrong with the overhaul. Given the repeated visits back to the shop (always for the coolant leakage) could we still use the warranty (obviously, if proven to be something they've done wrong) even though it expired this month?

    Thank you!

Need to know the problem, and what you paid for in your inframe. If the coolant is leaking from a bad head, and you did not replace the head(s), than you will be paying the bill. Likewise if you had them replace the head, and it is a bad head, than it is on them. Head gasket would be on them also, as well as leaky liner seals. EGR valve and cooler would be on you as it was most likely not changed.

Too many variables here with out more information.

Had roughly same experience with Houston Freightliner. Bought JB reject with 600k, bought warranty, ran dyno and showed weak but still approved and sold me warranty.

Unit plagued with engine problems and leaks. Multiple shop visits with heavy down time. Finally decided by their shop I needed rebuild...ok fine...went to pick up and they wanted 5k offset. El Presidente' was pissed. Paid money and got truck back THEN contacted Chicago legal.......

Carrier eventually got 5k back plus fees.....but oh what a ride. Never again!

Documentation is your friend here. Get an expert opinion from an outside mechanic, let him go over your warranty and the shop tickets and yes, if your still under warranty by date contact the dealer and log a claim, get the truck in there or in an approved shop. As long as you have claimed under the expiration date then your good.

Remember though, they will sit on truck until someone approves repairs. The shop will assume no risk of eating the repair so until someone says "go".....
