Hello old thread. I recently discovered the joy of used radio shopping. Why spend $$$ on new when you can find it on craigslist or letgo for a fraction of the price? My latest score-- a stock cobra 29 LTD NW for $30, I tested to make sure it was 100% functional before handing over the cash. No cosmetic damage, either! Now to get a mid-tier galaxy for under $150....:)

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Easy to do. I talked 15 miles with a radio shack 16 inch rubber ducky antenna off the roof of my car in 1987. Antenna Specialists ball mount on the roof of a 1970 Ford Ranchero.

Roof mount on car with stubby antenna is as good or better than a long antenna hanging off the side of a truck mirror bracket..

I only did it to prove a point and I always used a 9 foot whip or 96" Francis Amazer otherwise.
