I have to log my fuel, and I have 15 minutes on either side, and I have to log the location where I fueled. My safety department compares my logs with a T-Check records, so, I have no wiggle there.....
Every time I cross the border, I have to log it, to the minute....Safety checks mu border crossing receipt with my log (going from Hamilton, ON to TX via Buffalo, NY is 27 miles longer, but there is no US inbound toll. 27 miles is nothing, because I will probably wait at Detroit, MI for an hour). So, I have no inbound border crossing receipt, more time to play....
Unloading is a story for itself. Get there on time, back in the dock, wait 5 hours....How do you log it??? Log your 15 minutes, and you are screwed both ways. Not enough time in a sleeper, cant drive until you reset....Same goes for loading.
Here is a scenario for you, LogsRus, just tell me what you would do, hypothetically...
I leave Hamilton, ON on Saturday morning. Legal to Laredo, TX. Thirty three hours driving, 0.75 hours for three MVI's and 0.25 for fueling. That's 34 hours....Unloading, 0.25 hours....Going from Sam's Club in Laredo, TX to a company that I load at another 0.25....Loading there, another 0.25 hours. Going to TA and scaling, another 0.25 hours...35 hours, so I am good....Driving home,another 33 hours, plus 3 MVI's and a fueling is 69 hours. I deliver on Friday morning in Toronto, ON.Delivery is another 0.25 hrs. Pickup, another 0.25....If I step on it, I will make it to Hamilton in 0.50 hours. There is my 70 hours. If I don't make it, I have to wait until next week for my pickup, therefore, I am loosing one week of work, because, on Friday morning, I will be out of hours...
Lets just say that I am stuck at the Ambassador bridge for 2 hours. I am out of hours, what now? It's easy for my safety department to tell me that I am illegal, but if I don't fix my book, I am gonna wait for 36 hours.....Late for delivery, late for pickup, so, in another words, I loose 1 week of driving(Read PAY)
Girls in my safety department , sit or work, get paid 40 Hrs a week....God forbid you are late two minutes if you need something, cause there is no one there. You know what they say? "I work 9 to 5, I don't wanna stay late"
We just have to make our hours. I don't see anything wrong if I extend my day for an hour, cause I was stuck in rush hour for 3 hours....Log book is just a peace of paper....
Like I said before, I just wanna show a guy on welfare that I made more than him this week.

In short, as to my previous post.....
We are paid by the mile, and we are regulated by the hour.....
In a perfect world, it would work just fine. Too bad that we live in a real world......

How does this ghost driver thing work. Someone plz inform me I'm just curious as to how they can pull that off.

This method is covered in the Advanced Logging 102 course, which
follows Creative Logging 101, --- and is really quite simple.
First, pick a ghost and name him/her.
Most ANY name will do --- other than your own name, of course.
Then, when you've driven your alloted time, log yourself in the sleeper,
and your ghost as On Duty - Driving.
When your ghost has driven his/her alloted time, log your ghost
in the sleeper, and you as On Duty - Driving.
So simple ---
even a caveman can do it,
and many actually do.
However, if you've evolved beyond caveman status,
I don't recommend using a ghost driver.
It's illegal, but ONLY if you get caught,
and many actually do (get caught).
You see, most D.O.T. officers and/or truckin' company Safety persons
don't believe in ghosts.
I hope you realize that I'm just funnin' with you here, Coonass.
But believe me when I tell you,
what you DON'T know about ghost drivers
WON'T hurt you.
Now, ........ if you actually DO see a ghost drivin' your Big truck,
PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY,
and go to sleep.
You've been up and awake FAR too long.
But that's another story, covered in the class titled.

Now if you do log a ghost driver what happens when you get called into a scale and the DOT asks to see the other driver? -
I've had that same dream several times.
That, and the one where I'm drivin' up a VERY steep grade, and,
at the top, I just go flyin' out into space.
Then, there was the time I dreamed that a shipper, who wouldn't allow me on the dock during loading, had loaded a multi-drop load backwards. That dream was so real, that I put on my clothes, walked back, and swung the doors of the trailer --- only to discover that the shipper HAD, in fact, done just that. Loaded my trailer backwards.
Spooky, HuH?
Simple, O/O ---- just convince the DOT person that THEY aren't seeing something that might exist, suggesting that THEY might be workin' too many hours, and need a rest.
Of course, that could also lead to YOUR arrest.
And I rest my case, just IN case y'all might actually TRY that
approach.
Please DON'T mention MY name though.
After all, I DO have a reputation to protect.

Simple, it's time for a little Jedi mind trickery. With a sweep of the hand past the DOT officials face, you say in a smooth and assuring voice "The ghosts you seek are not here" then pull out your pen and start signing tickets.Last edited: Nov 7, 2008
