    I noticed when clicking on 'NEW POSTS' that some forums aren't included in the search.

    Is it possible to decide which ones are included on a per user basis?

    I believe there are no customizations available, but I put this in the mod's forum, so if there are ways, someone should enlighten us.

    The New Posts link is set up to leave out certain areas of the site, like politics, unmoderated jokes, and a few more. These areas usually contain threads/posts that are off topic, or controversial. If you wish to see when new posts appear in those areas, you can subscribe to that forum at the top and you will get alerts when someone posts a new topic.
