So my med card expires next month and I didn't want to be in a rush to get it done so I decided to get it done today. For the past few years I have been reading on here and listening to stories of the horror that can be a DOT physical since this new sleep apnea craze became all the rage. I decided to pay for the test myself and keep my company out of it. So I went to the local clinic and the doctor tells me I need a sleep study. Now, I know some people really have sleep apnea and that the machine really helps. That's great and amazing but I sleep great. Babies and logs envy me, when you look up the definition of perfect sleeper you see my picture.

So I told the doctor to stick it up his butt and asked him how much his kickback was from the testing center. It was a full blown shouting match. Well I left and went to another clinic and got a better exam and a 2 year card no problem. Between the two I am out 225 bucks but I have my medical card. Here is the thing, I truly believe that the test is rigged. It's too easy and too tempting for them not to rig it. The test would have cost me 300 bucks according to the pamphlet. I don't believe a doctor can just decide that I have sleep problems when I report no symptoms. I also know that once "diagnosed" you can basically never get off of it. I can't think of anything worse than being forced to wear a mask, even at home! It would actually hurt my sleep.

So here is the advice. Pay for the test yourself and stand up to the doctor if you know you have no problems. Don't just take it, don't let them steal your money, your privacy and your quality of sleep.

Stand up to the doctor even if you are not paying for it . It is not a requirement yet . If the company says you have to go to a better company !!!!

It seems like every new development or discovery of a condition will always yield a crop of two bit hucksters scamming to make profit off of it. Like you said there are legitimate cases where CPAP is helpful. It it certainly not as common as they want us to believe. The new "at home" sleep study is a crock. True results would need to come from an actual lung doctor, not some plug and play device programmed by a washed up video game programmer.

One of my coworkers got it because he fell asleep waiting for the doctor in the exam room, probably because he had been up since 10 pm and put in a 14 hour day throwing groceries. Still had to do the testing.

Do you stop to take a nap often? If so, then you might have sleep apena. I used to have to take a 2 hr nap daily but not anymore.

What did the "doctor" say triggered the need for a sleep study ? Your weight or neck size...?

And will your company take a card from any doctor.... Many company's won't .

They take any valid med card, way it should be. They just want me to drive. It was neck size, somehow that means I can't sleep I guess.
