Trucker Buck here with some vital info for you O/Os and drivers having a plethora of problems with your Cummins ISX engines. First let me tell you a little background of my story. I bought a 2012 Kenworth T-660 in April of 2013 and came back to the same company I was leased onto before my 2 year break. I drive 48 plus half of Canada. In the first 10 months with this truck, it nearly broke my heart (and my wallet). In the shop 8 times (2 roadside breakdowns, Montana and Manitoba) with repairs totaling over $8,000, not to mention $20,000+ lost revenue. I first went to KW for the issue then switched and went directly to a Cummins shop. Total system cleaning (DOC and DPF) four times with the last time having the DPF replaced. Turbo speed sensor replaced, Intake sensor replaced, NOX sensor replaced, Diesel Particulate Trap Pressure sensor replaced, doser replaced. On and on for ten months, sometimes not driving more than a few hundred miles. Now DPF light is on again and I will be in the shop within days.
Bottom line: all engines mfrs could have stood up to EPA when they were legislating this BS, but they didn't. I guess they thought it would end up being a "boon" for them. Manufacturing new parts for new trucks and of course they'd be in on the parts and service money grab. But, it's all blowing up in their faces. CAT is getting sued by at least 7 different parties and they're running scared, so scared that they petitioned federal court to get the lawsuits consolidated. The law firm I'm going to introduce you to in a minute already has a class-action going against CAT and they are asking for input from Cummins users.
This is not an advertisement. I am not a member of the legal team. I am merely sharing info with you. I will be a member of the class-action should we get enough interest going. and I may just be a dumb trucker, but I've never seen more blatant advertising than this post by "Trucker Buck".drvrtech77, Sik_Life and bigred81 Thank this. -
Why do people buy the ISX? I know several people always broken with them. There not reliable at all and very expensive for replacement parts

So you've been trucking for 9 years but just now decided to "find" this forum?
Seems to me you'd have far more credibility if you were an established member here, instead of being a ONE post wonder (like so many we've seen come & go before you).
BTW, I do agree with the plethora of problems with the EPA-induced BS and ISX's, but don't quite think the messenger is 'genuine'.drvrtech77, Sik_Life and jbatmick Thank this. -
I ran a 2012 T-660 with an 450 ISX in 42 out of the lower 48 states and 3 of the western Canada provinces. For 120k miles on everything up to 5 mile 10% grades fully loaded and it never had a single issue. Walked out of it with 33X,XXX miles on it. I guess it's just the luck of the draw.

It's really a shame to hear about bad (modern) Cummins motors. It my many years of trucking, the " BC Cummins" was in probably 85% of all the trucks I drove, including 3 of my own, and just had the best of luck with all of them. While maybe not the most powerful motors, they chugged on and on day after day, and some were pretty tired, but still made it through the day. The only thing I can figure, is diesel motor manufacturers are under the gun to make emission reduced engines, and the diesel isn't responding well to that, as it seems, I've heard problems with all motors now, not just Cummins.

They're junk motors. That's why Pete and kW use them. Junk motor for junk trucks.

Hi KWC, Before you try to fillet the skin off of me, try a little respect. It goes a long way! I guess while I wasn't blogging on this particular site (it's not the ONLY one, look around) I was too busy with my duties as a lifetime member of OOIDA and meeting with my representatives on Capitol Hill, yeah...Washington....fighting for your rights and the rights of all truckers. Add to that the hours of phone work between OOIDA and legal representatives and congressional staffers. Enough for my resume, I don't have to prove myself to anyone. That's the whole problem with the trucking industry...when anyone has a good idea someone is bound to shoot them down right away. It's sad. And to question my integrity is ludicrous. I'm not going to start a pee party and ask you what you have done for the industry.
Glad you agree that the EPA created all this mess. That's a start. Thanks for your post.Lepton1, magoo68 and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
