How would you rate loads based upon there location/weight?
Lets say you have a load in Texas going to Albany, NY. How would you go about rating the load? what do you look for in that load to consider it to be decent for a driver to take.

Region,weight,length of haul,days to deliver,tolls,day booked,stops.time of year,type of freight

Where does it go and most importantly how badly does it need to get there? I don't care what it weighs. If I can scale it and someone meets my rate let's go trucking.

Step 1: know your numbers. I need at least $2500/week +55cpm & I'd like at least 25% profit on top of that.
Step 2: Conservatively estimate how the outbound market is doing where the load is going.
Step 3: Add the load to NY and a hypothetical load back to TX -- does the round trip meet your minimum #'s in step 1?
Step 4: Quote as much as you think they'll pay. No sense leaving money on the table.
Step 5: If necessary, negotiate downward toward your #'s from step 1.
Step 6: Decline the load if it will not be able to meet your criteria.
As for weight, at today's low fuel prices a 45k lb truckload costs me ~5cpm more than a 5k lb truckload and slows my average speed from 55 to 50mph. Adjust step 1 numbers accordingly.freight-time Thanks this. -
