Not really reliability as much as poor millage, they are still reliable. But thats easily solved with a older ecm swap. There are other differences but the biggest issues is the ecm..... Mine started life as a MBN bridge.

    anything with a 70pin, 14.6 or 15.8 from 2WS 3406E, 1MM 600hp 3406E, 6NZ C15, 7CZ 600hp C16, they will all work. The 1MM wont give you much gains, but 7CZ C16 with stock settings on a stock 525hp bridge is a 120hp upgrade.

I have a 7CZ on mine with very hot codes.

i bet maxxforce engines dont have significant share in international trucks,so navistar had have to find another one OEM that will use maxforce engines,so in the end its Caterpillar

Dang there sure is a lot of CAT only people that dont think like you do.I have seen CATS made in the 49s still running. But I have seen some went down early mainly because of lack of maintance.

I've herd of great cat engines from the 70's and 80's but that's about it.
My half brother has had two overhauls on his 03 t6, But that could be his fault-he's kind of an idiot..
When i look at the truck paper i see allot of cat engines that have had majors with well under a million miles.... And allot with under 700,000 miles.
I know it all depends on the up keep but when it comes to cat's it's just to risky for me at least...
