J.B Hunt Intermodel

    Well I talked to a recruiter at JBH. They ask me how many miles I was getting a week. I told her 800 miles since I'm a local driver. She told me that they would cut my 8mo experience to have since they need an average of 1000 miles a week. I want to do this so bad since my company is getting rid of the routes and having other companies deliver. I don't know if I should lie about it since we don't do logs an there ain't away of checking. Or should I just go OTR for a few months? I like the 5days on 2 off and the Chicago run to Wisconsin is my area. Any info guys?

    In my opinion honesty is always the best policy. If they end up finding some way to check it you won't have a job PERIOD! I know from my experience they are VERY picky about backgrounds and work history.

    MT, JB has lots of dedicated accts that would be preferable to OTR. Some have a 6 month exp requirement some have only 3 mo requirement.

    Put in some time on a DCS acct and then transfer down the road later if you still want intermodal. There are some DCS accts that are quite nice so it's not like you'll be serving a prison sentence.

    Just looked and all the jobs for WI and IL are either 6 mos or 12 mos.

    If you have 8 months they should offer you something regardless of mileage but what do I know?

    Some of the railyards are tight and very busy so I can see why they want you to have experience but I would think being a local driver you've had more testing in tight spots than many of the OTR drivers. It could be more of an insurance carrier's standard which would take the discretion away from the recruiters.

    JB Hunt is self insured. The experience required is up to what acct the driver is on. Beer hauling is 2 years. OTR is student on up. Others vary.

    Hi. Just wanted to know how the intermodal position in this area is? Is it Good work and Pay? How much per mile and what other pay is included with this position.. Also where is the terminal in this area. Do you work 5 or 6 days a week. ect. Sorry for all the questions but I am interested in the intermodal drivers job. I see alot of the J B Hunt intermodal drivers in Anheuser Bush in Williamsburg where i pull out of every day.

    ran intermodal for over a year for them. Average lenth of haul is 200-250 miles.hard to get big miles doing short runs like that. its wasnt too bad though. i quit for better money. had to use vacation days for a couple bad weeks with them ..that prompted me to look for something else..

    Friend of mine on the intermodal side says he banks about $100 a day avg.

    Where's this?

    I would imagine some areas are better than others but "banking" 100 a day is really low. Most drivers that work intermodal in my area are grossing around $200 per day. (If I chose to work Saturdays I usually gross over 300 a day on that day).

    Your net will vary depending upon your tax filing status, 401k contributions and optional benefit deductions.

    Got transfered to intermodal regional in Sept and now running local since Feb. :) Didnt expect to get local that soon!
