I am in Engineering Product Support at Jake Brake and am contacting you after reading your post about the issues you have been having with your engine brakes. We experienced a similar issue with the same engine that we were running here in our dyno lab. I would like to give you some input even though the brake on that engine are not "JakeBrake" products. Those brakes are actually manufactured by CAT for use on that engine. That being said, I agree with the comments that say that you should replace the overhead wire harnesses. We found that over time the harnesses tend to get brittle due to repeated heat cycles and will create intermittent connections to all components under the valve cover. A CAT dealer should also be able to determine what is actually happening when you activate the brake and prevent you from "throwing parts" at this to get it fixed.

Don, could you PM me? I've been having some difficulty with my Jacobs model 340c, and I would love to troubleshoot with you, I just don't want to hijack this thread.

Last time I had a weak Jake and the owner didn't fix it I blew the engine. A C15 ACERT. Ymmv.

Sounds like I'm buying a new harness since my brake only seems to work on low. Crap!
