the other problem with the clock management is some of these companies don't know how to load plan to save their life and that doesn't matter if the company is large or small I've seen both... They hire a bunch of college kids who have absolutely not a clue in the world what they're doing

If they had to pay by the hour, you would see shippers and receivers become much more efficient!

In the interest of safety, I'd like to see the FMCA require 5 years OTR experience to be involved in dispatching and load planning.

    Blackshack46 and drvrtech77 Thank this.

Here is the thing though, I work with a lot of eastern Europeans and none of them have done it. I mean none at all, not at this company.

This makes no sense. The forklift operators and warehouse personnel who load and unload the trucks are paid by the hour [and probably as much or more then any driver would be paid in your fantasy world of driver hourly pay] so I fail to see where the trucker being paid by the hour is going to make some sort of difference to the shippers and receivers.

We have detention policies that work where they are and can be enforced. If you think a carrier is going to pay a driver to sit in the sleeper watching TV as his truck is being unloaded, the same rate as they make while driving, you're sadly mistaken. The driver's "wait pay" rate would be much less then the forklift operator pay rate

Then you found the proverbial needle in the haystack on that one. I'm not saying they're bad people either. They're very hard workers. I just think, and this is my opinion and we know about people's opinions, that everyone needs to follow the same rules. It doesn't matter what they did over there, it doesn't apply here. Like I said. Not against anyone wanting a better life, God bless ya and them. But we all need to follow the rules.
