Can I turn my 2005 4900ex star into a lowmax? What is the difference? Change cab mounts, I know the little cowl panel is different. Any input?

They are different trucks altogether. Exhaust is routed under the frame vs. under the cab. The hood is different, cab mounts and steering shaft would be different. Engine mounts differently as well. Modern Low Maxes can only be ordered with a Cummins because the DD15 won't fit.

Mine is a detroit. Never thought of hood and engine mounts.....exhaust & steering isn't that big a deal......wonder is radiator is different?

I thin the front axle is different also the Lomax is basically set up for car haulers.
-
Yes the front axle has a 5" drop

magoo68 and Oscar the KW Thank this.

The hood is different, not as much slope (I think it's the same as the old Heritage style hood, but not 100% sure), the front axle has a 4-5" drop compared to the standard axle, exhaust routing is different, rad support is different, cab mounts are different, steering shaft and box location are different, engine mounts are different, fuel tanks mount lower to the ground. Some dealers offered a package they called the "Mid Max" a few years ago, but that was pretty much just a regular EX with all the LowMax shiny bits.
05Starahip Thanks this. -
Cab and bunk is mounted 5" lower on frame.
Suspention is 5" lower front and back .
Diffrent hood
Exaust is all 6" and under frame mounted
Engine and trans mounted lower in frame
