The video I watched on the 955 the stock mic sounded pretty good and the Ranger SRA 158, which used to come stock with the General Lee, sounds pretty good too.

Galaxy, Stryker and Ranger stock mics sound better than some aftermarket mics.

Usually feedback is the cause of something else...radio/ ext speaker proximity and yes a poor quality mic, talk back up to high with ext speaker to close..Not just the fact of a cheap mic..

i personally think you'll be happy with the ranger 198 mic i have one on my connex 4300 i have been using it about 10 months now and i love it i had always used road kings before and the quality with them is going down hill i never liked astatic because of the metal cord or the black cord that stretches out in 2 months. my ranger mic clear crisp and loud as hell always get compliments on how my radio sounds. the ranger mic in quality and performance beats both road king and astatic in my personal opinion and the ranger mic you can get on line for 25 bucks or less.

you should be able to run your Mic gain talk back wide open all the time on almost any radio.especially a factory talkbalk...my ext speaker sits on the dash on the passenger side facing away from me........facing the windshield
