Don't be a sissy. I ran a 102 on the roof of my car for a couple years. Yeah it beat on everything, oh well. It's stainless, if you hit something, you just bend it back.

Also I invaded your turf the other day... was hoping to spot a new WM Cascadia with a 7 footer but alas...no avail.

44w according to what, and whom? Hook it up to a scope, and a spectrum analyzer. If the waveform is at all distorted, and/or the spectrum analyzer graph looks like a christmas tree on crack, you most definitely don't have 44w going out on the fundamental. Remember, a wattmeter is a simple device, that reads out the sum of all power going through it. It cannot determine if all the power going through it is on the fundamental.

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

I've run 102" before, been awhile though. I slip seat and just drive part-time, and then only 2 days a week, maybe more now and again, so I don't use my antenna if the truck I'm driving has a radio that works half way decent.

Even on a bird, if you don't look at it on a scope and a spectrum analyzer, you still don't know what it's truly doing. Even the bird will read higher if there is splatter.

Yep, gotta love it... it's all about that wattmeter to waaaaaaaaaaay too many folks.

"If you don't see "scope watts" you got "nope whatts" - a really good CB tech.

Fellas, take it easy. I am not a radio tech, and I'm merely passing on what a very successful radiotech showed me. Whatever it was, it turned my POS Cobra into a useful tool. Thanks for your helpful comments.
