I've never been able to find anywhere in any state that a suicide knob is illegal. In fact some states require the use of a assistive steering device for handicapped people.

The trailer lock on some trucks is considered a accessory. Many companies do not have this on / in their trucks. The reason being is that companies have realized drivers are using the trailer brakes more than the brake pedal. Since most of these company trucks are on a fleet lease, the driver wouldnt be charged for overhead if he used the free trailer brakes. So the companies simply dont bother with it.

If you have one, you probably had a o/o truck. The trainer I ran with, told me that it is better to learn to drive a truck with out it than it is to feel the truck HAS to have it.

 

Knuckle buster or steering wheel assist device for commercial trucks in the state of Virginia is illegal on the DOT state inspection. They will make you remove it and fail you for it.
I have a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia DD13 engine(used Schneider truck) that does not have a Trailer Brake Bar( Johnson bar) or an air bag dump. I want the air bag dump. I think it can go in the place of the PTO switch....just have to run all new lines to the air bag supply.

 

You can have both Johnson bar and suspension dump installed

 

There's a really racist name I always heard for that know knuckle buster whatever you wanna. I think it stemmed from men with much darker skin than me riding around in huge Cadillac and the like with those knobs on the wheel.

I'm sure they had their place before power steering but I've no desire for one now.
