I think the OP was referring to private fleets. Neither Wal-Mart or target are Union companies. For good reason. Unions tend to cost more, and provide less service, save for a few places.

Alot of the non union places are just as bad.

A grocery in a town by me is union and the prices are just a little higher.

The service there is just as good and may be better than the Walmart a mile away.

It becomes basically what someone thinks is important or not and personal preferences.

The Greeter: : biggrin_25516: Welcome to "F-in" Walmart

The Deli::biggrin_25511: "What the "F" do you friggin want?

Bagboys would be lumpers:biggrin_25510: then they would give a estimate on to how long it will take to load your cart and at what price

Stocking clerks: would be asleep in the aisles:biggrin_2556:

Every 2 hrs the store would shut down for "Break"

you may have hauled freight into wal-mart or target as a union driver but you won't haul it out of there as a union driver,i know,i've hauled freight out of both places as non-union company driver and owner-operator!!

i quit a union driving job a year ago!! i got a rate increase, the union took it all in union dues!!i worked for a non-union trucking company hauling for target in up state ny for almost 2 years then transferred to kroger account in va for the same company, they were union there because kroger was union, i was entitled to 2 weeks vaca.after 3 years but i didn't get it because i had to go by what to union said, not by what the trucking co. said,i had to be at the kroger account for 3 years to get 2 weeks vaca.so i quit!! unions suck!!

I have lived in union and non areas. The cost of living is ALWAYS higher in union areas. I remember over thirty years ago I moved to the rust belt from down south. In the same week as I left I went to the grocery to get a couple of things. In both areas I went to the same grocery chain. Down south I purchased a pound of bacon for $1.89. That same brand at the same grocery cost $3.89 in the rust belt. The only difference was the union. Down south they didn't have a union. In the rust belt the union was strong. From housing and taxes to groceries, you pay a price for your higher wages and demands when you live in a union area. I wish all of you union people would stay in the north and enjoy those high prices rather than bringing your socialist ideas down south. We like things the way they are now. If living and working in a union environment, why do you leave those areas when you retire? Florida is more like New Jersey or New York today rather than a truly southern state. It has changed the landscape with higher taxes and higher prices on real estate and about everything that is consumed.

Another thing. Those who like unions should insist on only buying products that are made by union companies. Put your dollars where your mouth is. You want high wages and benefits for yourself, but support 3rd world countries and cheap labor. That is the height of hypocrisy. If you want to help your union comrades (brothers) then prove it.

My niece worked for Walmart about 5 years ago. I live in a low income area. She made $9.75/hr which is more than most make here. No experience, no skills, that was good pay. A union comes in, they would expect her to make $20/hr. Why? Because they are in a position to negotiate. It still doesn't make the balance of education, experience versus job right. You go from one extreme to the other. The truck drivers even make a fair living right now.
If a union come in, you could kiss the $50 unloads goodbye. By taking care of their own, they would be screwing every hard working truck driver delivering.

The part about NYC, the unions is one reason why the cost of living is so high. $1800 for a 1 bedroom apartment. :biggrin_2554:
Sure they make more. But they also pay more. So what's the difference?

    Really?

Most of the grocery stores around me are union(UFCW) and I have never ran into that problem.

I shop and both union and non-union stores, never really seen a difference.

Same goes for delivering and pick up at places. Never really found much of a difference.

I work for a non-union trucking company, delivery to a all union grocery company, never had a problem. Both the warehouse and the drivers are always friendly and helpful.

I have not read all of the pages here but, do you guys realize what would happen if walmart tried to have a building built in NYC by using non union construction? I'm pretty sure bad things would happen if they could even find companies to do it.
