I drive around Chicago as well. I've seen three containers either blow their tires or have their brakes smoking during one 80 mile trip. It's like they never heard of a pretrip inspection.

I've done cans for years and the biggest problems were tires. Last time around I hauled over-weight cans with grain. (Usually grossed around 92-93,000) Tires were always a big consideration and when loaded, I ran no faster then 60, but usually only 55/56. (And I kept a spare tire on the truck along with jacks to change a tire if I needed to.) -

I've been hauling cans out of Miami and port Everglades for over a year and I can tell you guys the money is just not there, you can get a good week follow by two dead slow weeks, is a dead end I'm hitting the road pretty soon

It doesn't even pay much to the carrier. The only way they make money is by having volume.

DOT is building a scale house next door (literally) to the main entrance of BNSF Elwood....

So I thought I posted a follow up, but I guess not. That area is already seriously messed up. I've seen it so backed up it was out the ingate down baseline and half mile down arsenal road. Putting a scale on baseline is really going to add even more to the traffic problem.
7seriestv Thanks this.
