Going to be purchasing a 2016 Ram 3500 SLT or Laramie not sure on a dually or single axle weighing the pros and cons but in either case I will be pulling a Kaufman 2 car gooseneck 35.5 foot. My question is I have seen videos and spoken to drivers at truck stops and rest areas who say airbags is a good idea because it will help with your weight issues. Not sure how or why DOT would care about bags but is it over-kill to put bags on a 1 ton only pulling a 2 car hauler?

Please lets keep the comments about why only a 3500 and two car to a minimum thats what I can afford and what I am comfortable driving I would just like to stick to the question on hand.

    That may be useful.
In regards to the dually with airbags, I would get them but don't know how well stock bags will hold up. If you are looking for good prices on new rams check 31 dodge in kernersville nc. Get the most basic truck with the bare minimum you need because it's a work truck, you won't get any resale value in an ex-commercial dually with xxx,xxx miles regardless of options. (Half the stuff you won't need either)

I had the airlift 5000s on my dually and it helps the ride and the sag but it does nothing for the weight I don't know who told you that.

I'm blown away that anyone can think that buying a new dually for this business is a good idea. Like taking 30 grand and lighting it on fire.

Wouldn't you be better off asking this type of question in the hotshot section? Most here think doing this with a dually is a total waste of money and time.

Isn't air ride suspension a factory option on all Ram trucks nowadays?

On some models it is models like the Longhorn Limited and Laramie Limited that start at $70K on the models I am looking for it's an option for around $1K

It'd be worth it at that price IMO. I put a Firestone Ride Rite kit on my half ton Chev and it cost about $600 installing it myself. I don't tow heavy but its nice and keeps everything level when loaded up.

Just for reference I bought a 2012 Ram 3500 a few months ago with 95k miles for 27k. It's a Big Horn so every option except heated leather seats and steering wheel like the Laramie has. Already has been deleted and tuned with ARP head studs and leveling kit and B&W hitch, rhino liner. And BMF wheels and 33's. So like $3500+ of mods I was going to do anyway already done.

Just imagine the guy I bought it from payed 60k+ for this thing plus all those mods only to sell it for under 30k a few years later. I don't know about you guys but I like 30k plus to stay in my bank account.

I put air bags on a 3500 I had a while back (few years ago) and it made it ride like a tank. I let air out and never inflated them again.

That's a lot of money for a new pickup truck to tear up and wear out. For considerable less money than a new dually you can get a vehicle suitable for the job.

If you're dead set on pickup truck. Air bags shouldn't be necessary only hauling a 2 car.
