I got my CDL license in 2009 but never used it. Only trucks I've driven are automatic,Frieghtliners in Army. I'm still in the Army Reserves, since 2007. I'm now trying to refresh my driving skills & break into trucking. My Class A license is still active & my driving record is perfect for more then 12 years. I refused a breathalyzer in 1995 & beat a d.u.i.,while driving with a regular class D drivers license. I just called CRST trucking (first company I called). They recruiter pulled the refusal up,and claimed I'm disqualified. Wtf? How can this be so & do you guys think this will be all companies? I thought potential employers only go back so far. This incident happened when I was 25. I'm now 46. Gimme a break. Any insight or knowledge is highly appreciated.

If you already have your CDL you can do a lot better than CRST. Look for a smaller company. Maybe @Chinatown or @TROOPER to TRUCKER can help point you in the right direction.

DAC bans for life certain things. Refusal is probably one of them. Give me a moment to check my list...
Checked my list, shows two DUI/DWI ever you said only one which you beat... You probably can still run with a carrier.
Be warned, automatic only from military trucks do not fly in this industry that has started to put restrictions on CDL's for auto only preventing you from employ with companies that run manual transmissions.
Make yourself useful, learn a manual.
I wonder if a refusal is a felony? I will take a look at my state laws regarding refusual. There is a hard action that the Law will do when you refuse a test.
If you are having more difficulties than normal, there may be something in your driving record, MVR or DAC that is holding you back. The following are examples of items that might keep a company from contacting you for employment:
1 or more felonies in your lifetime
A drug related felony conviction
10 years or older felony conviction
Child pornography related conviction
Convicted of a violent crime
Firearm related conviction
Murder / Rape / Misconduct / Burglary / Robbery / Capital Theft conviction
Assault & Battery
Conviction/ investigated / or suspected of involvement in of terrorist activities
Currently on probation or parole
More than $5,000 of damage from a preventable accident in last 5 years
3 or more moving violations in last 3 yrs
3 or more preventable accidents in last 5 years
Truck abandonment in last 5 years
License suspension is less than 3 years old
1 or more moving violations over 15 mph in last 3 years
A DUI/DWI within the last 5 years or more than 2 DUI/DWIs ever.
Fired in the last 5 years
Ever failed a drug screenRusty Trawler and pattyj Thank this. -
Trans AM is a decent start. Or just beat the bushes locally and go to the local companies for a face to face.
MrBoogedy and Rusty Trawler Thank this. -
I wouldn't even list the refusal... Did you volunteer the info? You didn't get charged with dwi correct? Even then, it was a decade ago.
I partied hard when I was young, I had a refusal and a dui when I was 17(separate incidents), and a few other minor misdemeanors. I had no issues finding a trucking job joining the industry in 2003.Dumdriver, MrBoogedy, HalpinUout and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you beat the DUI, why mention it at all? Many companies don't care about something that old.
Put your location on your profile so we know the hiring area you live in.
I'd apply with Freymiller online then follow with a phone call. Several others also, but we need your location. Many companies bend their own hiring criteria from what's on the website as far as a long gap in driving and tickets.Claysapparel, HalpinUout and bzinger Thank this. -
I have a 16 year old dui and nobody has brought it up in over 10 years .
HalpinUout and ExOTR Thank this. -

And if he beat a DUI that doesn't count as 1 he has 0. Only convictions count.bzinger Thanks this.
