Roehl trucks are governed at 63, not 61. I can't say anything about the lunch or weekly pay because I went in JAN before the $500/week or provided lunches started.
Roehl did pay me mileage for driving my car out there. Other students had a bus paid for to get there.
My experience with Roehl is living up to expectations. That said, you will find happy and unhappy drivers with any company. Look where you live and see who has facilities in the area. If they have real estate, you know they have enough freight there to make it worthwhile.
You do sometimes get on backroads. Sometimes it is because customers are there and sometimes it is to save a toll. When I first started I went strictly by their routes. If I get sent on backroads that have steep climbs (like PA) and it isn't to a customer, then I will call and ask about other options because our trucks aren't powered for climbing steep grades and maintaining speed.Strad_gal Thanks this. -
I think Roehl goes on a case-by-case basis or by certain distance on if they pay for travel to the school. I'm in southern illinois and my employment specialist says that I have to pay my way there, even though everywhere I look it says they provide it. It's all rather confusing, I also sent a list of questions to her and she pretty much refused to answer them over e-mail and instead wants it over the phone. Am I just being paranoid or are they trying to hide something?

Roehl may be different but most places you pay to get to the CDL school. If you already have your CDL in hand, they pay your way to orientation. Meaning they will buy you a bus ticket or reimburse you for gas. If you fly you pay the difference in price.

Not sure, but I think it's not set in stone. One post I read a few weeks ago a driver skipped most of the road time with a trainer because he didn't need a long training period, so probably a case by case basis.
Some companies have all the Phase This and Phase That and drag it out for a lengthy time and some don't.
