DNR, dept of natural resources, normally a chopper or airplane to spot wild fires, and sometimes another large bird to dump fire retardant on the fire. You see the spotters all over the USA, they fly everyday during the fire season.
Around here they fly twice a day almost every day year round. If they spot a fire they advise the crews so they know how much and what kind of equipment they will need.
