    Ridgeline, wouldn't you agree, by him adding a ground wire to the antenna mount and connecting it to a random ground in the truck, could be the cause of his issue?

    Yes it could be the cause and the ground could be a solution but one thing would be to have someone with the right equipment and a little bit more knowledge check everything out and show the OP what could be done in the next time.
