That moment when your about to get some sleep and you suddenly hear someone having difficulty parking near your side of the row. Then you hear a crunch. Yep, the truck 3 spots to my left just got backed into.

That's when you realize how much you hate small TA's and you should have just driven to the 30 spot independent down the highway.

It's not always the newbies, either. Even those "third generation" guys can #### up.

It could happen at the 30 spot independent just as well. Sometimes you're the bug...

Yeah I just had some guy last night about 2 #### hairs off my front passenger side bumper tying to back into a spot at the new Flying J in Lebanon, OH while I was already trying to sleep. I'm not shutting down at that place again unless it's very early in the afternoon and I can grab an "easy escape" spot.

I've yet to find a decent place that isn't a total nightmare around Cincinnati. No good independent places around.

i think part of the problem is a lot of these truckstops were designed when cabovers and 45' trailers were the norm. And 96" max width.

Stop by that new pilot in Atoka, OK sometime. They are building many of them screwed up from the start. The safe spots are the paid parking spots...

I'm not sure what it's called, but I've been practicing the kind of backing where instead of angling out like they teach in truck school, I start the back in at an L shaped angle and push the trailer over like a big hand on a clock.

Generally if I have too much doubt about a parking spot I keep looking.

Most of the TA locations I used to go to when I had my single axle 134" wheelbasetractor/ 40' trailer combo(1976) are still in business. Even if you get a place like say the Petro in El Paso, by the time guys start inventing new parking spots, very few areas are safe. As the economy falters it is getting better...

Push too hard and it's a good way to pop tires
